Reference Miner is freeware, Bookends is not. You can download a free evaluation copy of Bookends. This evaluation copy is fully functional except for a 50 reference per database limit. To run it you will need a Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or later. To activate the feature that allows you to enter unlimited references, please fill out the secure order form or contact Sonny Software to register your copy of Bookends and receive your activation code.
Note: Bookends 10.x is a commercial upgrade from Bookends 9.x and earlier. It is free for anyone who bought or upgraded to Bookends 9.2.2 on or after July 1, 2007. The upgrade price is $29 for those who bought Bookends before July 1, 2007—see our order page for details). If you have an older version of Bookends, you can try this version in the demo mode. Do not throw out the older version in case you decide not to upgrade to this version of Bookends.
Note: When opened in the demo mode, Bookends will not be able to see or use formats you created that are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Bookends/Custom Formats. This is to prevent their inadvertent conversion to the Bookends 10 internal structure. If you have created your own formats that you want to try in the demo mode, copy them to the /Bookends 10 Folder/Formats folder first
