Re: Scanning messes up manuscript's format

I suspect it has something to do with the latest Word update (I had checked the box to get early access to new releases). I have another computer that still has Word 15.26, and there is no problem. Also, I tried saving as rtf and scanning that, and there is no problem. So I am okay for now, but migh...

Re: Scanning messes up manuscript's format

I don't think either is the case. It isn't creating a new document (though I have just tried scanning with creation of a new document, with the same problem), and it isn't reflecting the normal style, which is Times New Roman, 11pt, double-spaced. It does seem to have something to do with styles tho...

Scanning messes up manuscript's format

Hi I am suddenly encountering an add problem with Bookends. When I scan my manuscript (in Microsoft Word for Mac, latest version 15.28) it really messes with the manuscript formatting. Before scanning the main text is in Times New Roman 11 pt font, double-spaced; after scanning it is still Times New...

Support for Microsoft Word for Mac 15.8

Microsoft have just released a preview of Office 2016 for Mac with an updated version of Word. I know it has only been out for a few days, but wondering if it is possible to get Bookends working with it now, or will it need some work from the Bookends end? No hurry, just curious!

Re: semicolon within backslashes

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. It was a few days before I noticed the problem, and unscanning now just leaves a single citation where there were often 3 or 4. I will liaise with you off-list to sort it out.

Re: semicolon within backslashes

Selecting another citation separator doesn't seem to be working. I am using the most recent versions of Bookends and Mellel, and when I insert multiple citations they are still being separated by a semi-colon. Unfortunately it has caused the first significant data loss since I have been using both p...

semicolon within backslashes

Hi I am trying to insert some text within citations, which seems to be problematic when the text includes a semicolon. For example, when I insert '\fMRI; \' into a citation it is output simply as ';'. I assume this is because the semicolon has other functions. Is there any easy solution to this? Che...

odd problem: journal title imported with an S

This odd problem cropped up a few months ago (and took me a while to notice): everytime I import a reference using Bookends's "search pubmed" tool the imported journal title is followed by two spaces and an 'S'. e.g., "Biol Psychiatry S". It is driving me mad trying to figure out...

I have got it fixed: I had missed one of the preference files (there are 4 of them?). Trashing the com.sonnysoftware.bookends.plist file did it.

Can't detect internet connection

Very minor problem here, but one that's been bugging me for a while. When I choose "check for updates" I get a "can't detect internet connection" error message, though I do of course have one and am able to do internet searches, etc from within Bookends. Any idea how to fix this?...

downloading Pubmed pdf's via proxy

I'm very pleased with the introduction of the ability to dowload pdf's with their citations in the recent version of Bookends. I have a problem though, and that is, for me to have access to most articles I have to sign into Pubmed through my university's proxy. That means that instead of the path: h...

Thanks, relatively easy solution; only slight pause for thought when I saw that the 'book title' field didn't appear in the Global Change Case menu, and I had to map it to the 'vol(issue)' field (which is the corresponding field when the reference is for a journal article).

Title case for book chapters

Most of the references for book chapters in my database have the titles of both the book chapter and of the book in sentence case. However, the format for most bibliographies that I use require that the book chapter title appears in sentence case and the book title in title case. If, in the formats ...
