Re: Bookends Tools, an Alfred workflow of 11 different functions

V1.3.9 was recently released, which fixed a compatibility problem for attachments with V14 and also added [control]+[shift] to copy the bookends:// ref using becite / betitle / beall

Re: Best practices to work with the Bib-sync feature

Here is an applescript (runsync.applescript) that should automatically run the re-sync command only if Bookends is running: if application "Bookends" is running then tell application "System Events" to set previousApp to name of 1st process whose frontmost is true tell application "Bookends" to acti...

Re: Best practices to work with the Bib-sync feature

Here is the launchd config file that monitors the BIB file for modifications and runs the script to generate JSON file. Place it at /Users/YourUserName/Library/LaunchAgents/keep-json-sync.plist . In my case my BIB file is at ~/Dropbox/Papers/References/Core.bib — launchd watches this file for any ch...

Re: Import from Clipboard

Here is a version which selects the options in the dialog: tell application "Bookends" activate delay 0.1 end tell tell application "System Events" tell application process "Bookends" click menu item "From File or Clipboard…" of menu 1 of menu item "Import References" of menu 1 of menu bar item "Fil...

Re: Import from Clipboard

As far as I can see from the Applescript dictionary, Bookends doesn't offer a method to import from the clipboard via applescript (maybe I'm wrong or there is a trick). One solution is to use UI scripting: this triggers keystrokes etc. but is a bit kludgey and prone to occasional failure. This simpl...

Re: Best practices to work with the Bib-sync feature

For those of us who prefer to use Pandoc's CSL engine for referencing (even if we then compile to LaTeX), some additional tips: Pandoc can compile more quickly if it uses CSL-JSON, therefore we can run a script to automatically generate the JSON from the synced BibTeX file. In this case we can use a...

Totally brilliant, this is such a wonderful addition, many thanks to Jon for considering this and adding it. Bookends rocks!

Re: [Feature Request] Auto-sync to a BibTeX File

Formats can't really have bugs. Please send me your custom BibTeX format and I'll test to see why it's faster. I made a minimal BibTeX which removes for example the abstract field and this does export faster than the default by trading off the amount of data to be written out. In this case, for mak...

Re: [Feature Request] Auto-sync to a BibTeX File

@iandol -- I as sume that any given paper you write with collaborators doesn't use all 8K references. It would speed things up considerably if you create a group (perhaps a smart group) for a paper and exported that as needed. I suspect your 7-9 minutes would be a log or more faster. One thing I ca...

Re: [Feature Request] Auto-sync to a BibTeX File

At least in my case, I collaborate and generate my work-in-progess back and forth multiple times per day. I use Scrivener+Pandoc to build a DOCX or LaTeX>PDF depending on my collaborator. I add references to Bookends as I write, and so need to get an updated BibTeX file multiple times in a day when ...

Re: Converting Author-date formatted citations in Word back to citekeys

Actually, this may be already built in to Bookends Tools V1.3.7 as an undocumented command, try selecting references in Word or other word processor, and call up Alfred and type in beconvert and it should run the script for you…

Re: using iCloud Drive for synching attachments

No, you can't use the iCloud Folder for iOS Sync between Macs -- as I said that folder is created by iOS Just to clarify a bit, if you did have an iOS device to create that folder (in my case at /Users/ian/Library/Mobile Documents/iCloud~com~sonnysoftware~bot/Documents), then that folder should wor...

Re: Bookends Tools, an Alfred workflow of 11 different functions

Hi, I still can't reproduce this, but it is possible some setting or difference is causing the problem for you; I replied in more detail over at the Alfred forum: https://www.alfredforum.com/topic/10687-bookends-tools-%E2%80%94-a-curated-toolset-for-bookends-reference-manager/?do=findComment&comment...

Re: Word for Mac 2019 - unscan issue

I'm sure Jon will have more useful support, but in the meantime, you can see the raw temporary citation text toggling the field codes using the context menu, that shows you the original temp-citation content: Screen Shot 2021-08-23 at 09.05.43.png What do the field codes for different citations show?

Re: Is it possible to change the preceding sign of unique ID?

I've also used the BibTeX citekey which work great (if you have them set up in your library), and this has the added advantage that you can more easily convert between citations that BE can read [phillips2013] if you are forced to write in MS Word, to Markdown citations that Pandoc's excellent CSL t...
