Re: Generating an abbreviations table

After a scan the cited references are all hits. You are then free to do with them whatever you like with an AppleScript. For example, you could use a special format that just output User20 (where the abbreviation might be stored) and/or the journal field. In the AS you could sort them, remove dupli...

Re: Generating an author index

Bookends doesn't know anything about the document, it has no way of knowing what page a reference is cited in (and could change at any time if you edit the document). That's something the word processor has to handle. Since Mellel treats citations as objects, it knows where they are. You might writ...

Re: Generating an author index

Philologist wrote: Fri Aug 04, 2023 6:19 am I forgot to mention, Nisus Writer can also create a list of all authors in the document and then use that list to create a (hierarchical or non-hierarchical) index all in one go!
That sounds very useful. How can one do that in Nisus Writer?

Re: Generating an abbreviations table

—PART TWO— 7. Create a Smart Group (based on a meaningful keyword). Now you have direct access to all your abbreviated entries. You can select them all and execute the menu command "Copy Citation". You'll then see something like this in Mellel I think this is the point of difference betwe...

Re: Generating an abbreviations table

Again, in as few words as possible, show me what this would look like in Word. I'm guessing it can't be done in Bookends, but I won't know for sure until I see it. Below is the example from my thesis. Generating the abbreviations list itself is helpful. The challenge from the SBL Style Guide is tha...

Re: Generating an author index

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you want. Please, in as few words as possible, post an example of what you want this author list to look like in Word. Sure, here's a screenshot of a PDF page from my thesis document. These indices are relatively common in humanities books. Each name is an author ...

Generating an abbreviations table

Hi, Following on from https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=6031 , I'm also trying to generate an abbreviations table for the front matter of the book or journal article. It was suggested to me on the DEVONThink forum that this could be done in Bookends: You can create this list autom...

Generating an author index

Hi, This is the first of a few questions, all of which arise from a post I made on the DEVONThink forum a little while ago ( https://discourse.devontechnologies.com/t/successful-doctoral-thesis-using-dt/74644/1 ). I've finished my doctoral thesis off and I'm taking a bit of time to see if I can get ...

Thank you!

Just wanted to drop a note to say thank you for Bookends. I've just successfully completed and defended my doctoral thesis at Oxford and used Bookends extensively. I've put plenty of request in over the years, and wanted to make sure I acknowledged how much I have appreciated not only the software b...

Re: Case protection in BibTeX export format

Jon wrote: Tue May 10, 2022 7:40 am Sorry about that. The setting was actually saved but the preferences UI wasn't being set properly. Please download 14.0.8 again, this has been fixed in a silent update.
Thanks, that has fixed it for me. Really appreciate this as it make the BibTeX support much better.

Re: Case protection in BibTeX export format

Jon wrote: Tue Apr 12, 2022 5:42 pm It's done, and if no major problems crop up it will be in the next update.
Hi Jon, thanks for this. When I tick the checkbox for "Bracket "don't change case" words in title, {Paris}", and if I then close the Preferences and reopen, the tickbox is unchecked again.

Re: Omitting shortjournal field if there is no abbreviation in the Journal glossary

When using the shortjournal field in humanities publications, the abbreviations are often put into a table at the start of the publication. With BibLaTeX this is nice and easy to do automatically. A map is made between all the entries cited which have a shortjournal field, and their corresponding jo...
