Re: autocomplete paper vs autofill from internet > different sources?

Thanks, your answer is already very helpful.
I did not know that a click on the PubMed logo on the lower right corner of the autocomplete-paper-window opens a dialogue, where I can choose the source.
Yet, autofill-from-internet seems to use them all, at once.

autocomplete paper vs autofill from internet > different sources?

I imported an old Nature pdf Doolittle, WF. 1978. “Genes in Pieces: Were They Ever Together.” Nature 272 (5654): 581–82, doi:10.1038/272581a0. The pdf contains just images no text and consequently Bookends could not find the metadata. I looked up the doi on the Nature website and entered it into the...

Re: Simple Keyboard Maestro macro to speed up the Autocomplete process

Jon, when I do a pdf import, I sometimes get orphaned pdfs in the attachment folder. The files contain the orginal file name, no changes to e.g. "anonymous-234"...and there is no reference in Bookends, which has this pdf attached to it. The other problem is that if Bookends imports the met...

Re: Simple Keyboard Maestro macro to speed up the Autocomplete process

Jon, always nice talking to you... How can you say importing from watchfolder works great? As I said, it is not Bookends fault, when e.g. some journals put the end of the previous article (including a doi) on the first page of the following article. In this case you get a perfect reference with wond...

Re: Simple Keyboard Maestro macro to speed up the Autocomplete process

I agree, Bookends is the most advanced reference manager. Yet, importing a large number of pdfs (using the watchfolder) does not work...and I don't know, if it could work as long as journals do not standardize the position of the DOI in their articles. Therefore I would prefer a semi-automated way (...

Re: [Feature request] pdf import - right click on file + doi input

Ok, this explains it... Somehow, the option "autocomplete" does not show up, when I right-click on a reference. That's the reason why I always use "autofill", which sometimes does not work and requires to delete several fields. See attached image no autocomplete.jpg So..."au...

Re: [Feature request] pdf import - right click on file + doi input

Well, when Bookends picks up the wrong doi and imports the wrong data into the new reference, it is not sufficient to delete the DOI and do an "autofill from internet". You have to delete the contents of several fields (doi, PMID, URL, possibly even PMCID and ISSN)...otherwise it will impo...

Re: [Feature request] pdf import - right click on file + doi input

If the automatic import worked, but somehow Bookends picked up the wrong doi, autocomplete from internet does not work. If the automatic import resulted in no new reference and just an orphaned pdf in the attachmentfolder, your suggestion does not work either. Therefore I would love a right-click-on...

[Feature request] pdf import - right click on file + doi input

On average, every 20-30th pdf-file-import results in an orphaned pdf file in the Bookends attachment folder with no reference created. Since this is rather complicated to repair, because you have to compare file by file, I would prefer a half-automated version of the pdf import feature. A right clic...

Thanks, I upgraded today.

Re: Custom formats: Convert ens-Endnote files to fmt-Bookends files?

This is a project, which has been discontinued. "Maintainer needed! Development has stalled on these tools since the Mendeley & Columbia University project ended in 2012. The site is visited by over 3,000 people every month and there are plenty of user suggestions and github issues to work ...

Re: Custom formats: Convert ens-Endnote files to fmt-Bookends files?

You say it is not feasible...

I just found this: http://editor.citationstyles.org/searchByExample/

Isn't it similar to the idea I suggested above?

Re: Custom formats: Convert ens-Endnote files to fmt-Bookends files?

Thanks Jon, "create format catalog" is a nice feature. Didn't know it. Anyway... Would it be possible to program a "format creator", where you have two input fields, one for the citation and one for the reference. In the citation field you insert a citation from a specific journa...

Custom formats: Convert Endnote to Bookends files or a format file finder for Bookends

Many journals provide Endnote-format files, but no Bookends files. Wouldn't it be nice to have an import feature for ens-files in Bookends? Yet, it might be no easy task!
I might have already asked this question...
