What is the function of scanning the TEX files?

I have noted that the latest version has a feature to scan .tex files. But, I couldn't get my head around it why one wants to can these files.

Has anyone used the new feature for anything?

Re: Tell me about your paper-writing bookends workflow

Labels & Rating are also very powerful tools. For me, for publications that I need to read from start to end, for one specific project (article), I rate them 5-- - for publications I will check; need to careful examine: I rate them 4 - for publications that might be relevant, but not sure about: rat...

Re: Guidance on switching to Bookends

The last one is the only real language-specific one, and by hardcoding the BibTeX output I get the correct output in my LaTeX typesetting. The span generates the correct output for Pandoc's cite-proc on a JSON file. But for my field, preserving italics for transliterated terms (in this case, Akkadi...

Re: Set selected text as title

This is a good very idea to manually collect reference data from the pdf documents. I have been using Keyboard Maestro for this purpose. A little icon just on the side the highlighter; call it a MetaTab (or Picker). http://take.ms/CYbTg Once the user selected a text from the pdf document and clicks ...

Re: How do you avoid duplicate CiteKeys across libraries?

You don't have automatic disambiguation turned on for citekey generation in Preferences, BibTeX tab? This is my setting: http://take.ms/d9cP4 If Key field is not unique: warn or append lowercase letter? With automatic append you can't have identical citekeys. Yes, I know. The problem is when I manu...

Re: How do you avoid duplicate CiteKeys across libraries?

Alternatively, you can make the citekeys of a library unique before exporting by doing a Global Change -> Change Field and putting an identifier for the library in front, or behind, the citekey. Making sure there are no spaces. Jon Sonny Software I have been doing this for some time. The problem wi...

Re: How do you avoid duplicate CiteKeys across libraries?

Just another suggestion: I agree that the best course would be to merge your libraries if possible. If not, however, one thing you could do is take the beginning of my script that updates your Bibfile by making a list of its current BibKeys. With that list, you could almost certainly find a handler...

How do you avoid duplicate CiteKeys across libraries?

I know many people in here export their library to bibtex format. I have been doing the same for a long time. There is one issue that I have been suffering from. Many citekeys exported from my two libraries are identical. - I have a library for my books - I have a library for my articles When the re...

Re: Autolinking Bookends and DEVONthink records

I found a way to do it now. The date formatting was the problem. Adding the following line correctly imparted the creation date from date of the publication. set {theKey, thePath, theAuthor, theEditor, theTitle, theWords, theDate} to {citekey, path of attachment items, authors, editors, title, keywo...

Re: Autolinking Bookends and DEVONthink records

Hi Zach, I was trying to modify the script to change the creation date of the pdf file to the publication date. {theKey, thePath, theAuthor, theEditor, theTitle, theWords, theDate} to {citekey, path of attachment items, authors, editors, title, keywords, publication date string} of myItem do shell s...

Re: Script to update (rather than overwriting) bib file

First of all: thank you so very much for your script dear Zach. This is going to be a very useful script. I have been playing with it. I couldn't get it finish the process because I have a large library (about 12,000 references). The current script took over 46 minutes to process my references;(and ...

Re: Topic

It would be great, if there were separate Feature Requests sub forums or something. I guess it could be a great feature indeed for Bookends. I've a couple of ideas too, but I'm just a newbie and I'm not sure if these are valid options which actually can be applied in Bookends. For the library speci...

Re: Creating BibTex bibliography

You'd ideally need to keep a separate "database" of the UUIDs for the BIB, then query BE and find the unique UUIDs to then add. So this is tractable and doable, for someone with some time on their hands... :( Exactly. That is what I have been thinking. It is even possible to query into a specific g...

Re: Creating BibTex bibliography

I was thinking to use betobibtex as a means to sync my BE library with my Bib library managed by Jabref/Bibdesk. The idea was to have a system similar to the Better BibTex plugin in Zotero: https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex, https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/push-and-pull/ Wh...
