Re: Question about highlighting

I downloaded the update the other day and was very interested in the mention of notecards. When I first tried highlighting within the annotation environment, I didn't see an option to make a notecard and wondered if I'd misunderstood the version history. When I went back to the overview of the paper...

Re: Question about highlighting

Aha, I see there are indeed others out there with the same thinking. That's good to confirm. aroddick: Thanks for the suggestion of another approach to this. It does sound like a lot of work too, though. And I know what you mean, I'm an ex-Sente user too! kseggleton: I'm in a similar situation. I mo...

Re: Highlight Selection and Make Bookends Notecard

Hi, Enrico. Yes, it sounds like it is the exact same question, if I understood correctly. Seems we had the same thoughts!

Serge: excellent, I'm very pleased to hear it's the next feature! It may seem a small change, but I think it could profoundly affect the way some people use Bookends.

Re: Question about highlighting

I thought I'd follow up to see if there was any further news since my original enquiry a little while back. I appreciate that there will always be a long "To Do" list, though, and the many users will of course have different ideas of priorities. ;) The reason I'm keen on this potential fea...

Re: Attachments not found

Aha! p. 376 of the User Guide, under Global Changes. So it's not under a sync option, got it now. Thanks! When I look at this, the default in the drop down menu is "Documents," which seems different from the User Guide, but then underneath there are (indented) options for a couple of sub-f...

Re: Attachments not found

I have a related issue and so thought I'd post here rather than create a separate thread. I've found my desktop was downloading attachments correctly from iCloud but was not uploading them. For whatever reason, the "Attachments folder" in Preferences was not showing as "iCloud Folder ...

Re: Question about highlighting

That's great to hear, Serge, thanks. Sorry about the late reply, things have been busy!

As this feature could completely change how I use Bookends, is there any news on when it is likely to arrive in the iOS version? Thanks.

Re: Question about highlighting

Hello Serge, After a bit more searching, I found something similar to what I’d like to do. In the macOS version of Bookends, it is possible to highlight text and add it to a “notecard.” The notecards appears to be searchable, so this is exactly what I’d like to do, rather than adding notes (annotati...

Re: Question about highlighting

Hello Serge and thanks for getting back to me. It's good to know I'm doing things correctly and not missing anything. My aim is to find a way to highlight important parts of papers and then make my highlights searchable within Bookends. I could highlight the text, copy it, and paste it to a note. Ou...

Question about highlighting

I've switched to using Bookends for macOS and have recently got an iPad and so am trying out the iOS version too. The support for the Apple Pencil and the ability to highlight text and make notes on the iPad is very useful, especially if synced between devices. When highlighting, it looks as though ...

Re: One library or many libraries

Sure, I realize iCloud sync would need to use an Apple ID, but I was thinking more generally. My comment was based on how people might want to use libraries (with current or future Bookends features), perhaps using other cloud/network storage options, not only iCloud. As there was a request to know ...

Re: iCloud and attachments

Oh, OK, thanks! We had misunderstood one another. So, if I understand correctly: instead of moving the PDFs to the local Bookends (Attachments) folder, I should copy the files to the Bookends folder (no need to create an "Attachments" folder) in iCloud Drive, and then it should work. I wil...

Re: One library or many libraries

With different programs over the years (EndNote, Sente, and now Bookends), I've always worked with one, big library. I've found this the easiest way to keep things organized. That said, I could envisage a situation where users may wish to share libraries. I've known research group leaders upload an ...

Re: iCloud and attachments

Thanks for replying so quickly, Jon! The PDFs were stored in: ~/Documents/Bookends/Attachments/Sente Attachments and I have now moved them up a directory level to: ~/Documents/Bookends/Attachments/ I opened Bookends and checked that it still found the attachments (i.e. no broken links), which it did...

iCloud and attachments

I'm a new Bookends user and so am still learning about the software. I recently purchased and installed Bookends for macOS and, in parallel, for iOS. I imported my library from Sente and that process went very smoothly, which I was relieved to see! :D I then clicked on the cloud icon in the bottom l...
