Re: Custom format for file renaming
Hi Jon, Related to this topic, I'm processing PDFs in my Bookends library with external software tools, and I'd like to be able to use the Bookends ref #id value in the pdf filenames to maintain a 1:1 association. The #id is used in citations as well making it an especially useful choice for my use ...

Re: Scripting 'Scan Document' function without invoking UI
Hi pcon12, Take a look at this thread of discussion I had with Jon quite some time ago. With the latest release '14.1.1 (August 6, 2022)', Jon has added support for: Use Copy Formatted for citations Previously Copy Formatted only allowed you to copy the formatted bibliography output. I checked the B...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
I've done some preliminary tests and think I can get this to work -- double tilde ``temp cite`` Will that work for you? Jon Sonny Software Hi again Jon, Sorry for the delay in responding. I really appreciate your efforts to assist with my dilemma. Thanks Jon. The double grave accent `` would probab...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
First off, I think the more basic idea that Bookends should not change temporary citations unless it has successfully matched would be a good start, and I wouldn't think it would cause any trouble to existing use cases? I tend to agree. Jon, is this something you would consider changing in an upcom...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Damien: you may be looking for a bookends-only solution, but remember that Pandoc can be scripted to do much of what you want I think. I use it to go from markdown+citations to plain text, HTML, BBCode for forums, LaTeX, DOCX and a zillion other outputs. It uses the citeproc engine (same as iOS Boo...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
We offer a number of alternative possibilities already, ones that I would have thought avoided problems with math formatting and markup. I know, that is what I thought too. Until I worked my way through them. {} - Programming Language block delimiters [] - Markdown links ~~ - MarkdownXL Raw Source ...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Nothing is ever simple is it. :) Changing the temp citation delimiters to the final ones if the reference is not found was a choice made long ago because I thought that was better in cases where one of a group wasn't found (e.g. one of three in a citation group). That behavior could be changed, and ...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Hi Again Jon, After being side-tracked for the past 6 months or so, and after the successful release of v13 of Bookends, I thought I would revisit this topic. :) I am attempting to use Ulysses and Bookends together. But not just for exporting to MS Word to submit to publishers, but also to post dire...

Re: Bookends NodeJS API client released (experimental)
This might be an example that is more evident for the "normal user": A script that updates the BibTeX key according to you own tastes in a way that is not possible with a style (since it involves computation): https://github.com/cboulanger/bookends-api/blob/master/examples/bookends-set-bi...

Does this coincide with Mojave's new security framework around integrations using AEs?
Or was a rework on the cards anyway?

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Hi Jon, I did a small experiment by dumping out a complete HTML document (home page of medium.com) and ran a scan pass on it with bookends. The scan looked at every instance of open and close braces {} and attempted to convert them to citations. When writing in a browser, it would be unusual for the...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Hi Jon, Just a thought -- it doesn't matter if the browser has robust AS capabilities or not. Even if it has xero scripting functionality You can use UI scripting to get the contents of the web page (Select All and Copy), extract the text from the clipboard, pass it to Bookends for processing, save ...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
If this were to be implemented, I'm leaning toward the notion that the AE would pass the paper (TEXT, assumed to be UTF-8 or RTF) to Bookends with the name of the format. Bookends would scan it with the following options on: insert hidden citations (if RTF), create bibliography (add at the end), tr...

Re: [Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Hi Jon/All, Closing the library from which you wish to cite using the 'server' is a big caveat, which is rather unfortunate. The Applescript event method generally would still be useful, although in the case of web browsers and excepting Safari, browser sandboxing generally prevents accessing the lo...

[Feature Request] Cite As You Write Online (e.g. Wordpress, Medium etc)
Hi All, I am wondering how many others would like to be able to use temporary citations from Bookends (i.e. Cmd-Y from bookends) in articles they write online using their browser (e.g. Wordpress or Medium), and then within their browser, convert the temporary citations to the proper ones before publ...
