Inconsistent incorrect appearance of metatype
I am stumped. I cannot figure out why a reference is not appearing correctly in my citation and in my bibliography. It is a metatype. It is the book section of Book:Book Section metatype. I have both references correctly categorised in the inspector. I have use metatypes for all children selected in...

Re: Problem with ^ to place date outside parentheses with Mellel
I think I've been thinking about this a bit wrong. In the Plato Journal style, you can either place a citation at the end of a sentence like this: "Zuckert thinks the definitions are inclusive (Zuckert, 2009, p. 691)." Or you can do it as an indirect quote, like this: "Zuckert (2009, ...

Re: Problem with ^ to place date outside parentheses with Mellel
Dear Jon, Thank you for your incredibly swift reply, as always. I suppose I'd like to know exactly what the ^ does. Another way of looking at my problem is the following. For the Plato Journal format, where I have selected 'Enclose citations with parentheses', the ^ moves the author name outside the...

Problem with ^ to place date outside parentheses with Mellel
I need help dealing with two seemingly incompatible formats, and probably with my failure to figure out Mellel. I often use ^ to place the author in front of the citation, like this: {^Bondeson, 1975, #95029} Today I started experimenting with Mellel (6.2.2). I exported a Scrivener document, and con...

Odd behavior with circumflex accent and subsequent citation
Hi Jon, I am getting an odd behaviour. For most of my citations I use the circumflex ^ within my citations, for the name to appear outside brackets, as in "{^Burnyeat, 1990, #85036@142} argues that..." etc. But this journal (the same one from the previous thread) doesn't like parentheses a...

Re: Font size for what you see on the screen
Thanks again Jon. I hadn't clued in to the fact that there was a drop-down menu there. As always, thank for being so attentive to questions like this.

Re: Subsequent Citations question
Hi Jon, I thought of another way to do it. I can duplicate the styles and make a version that includes the short title in the first citation and a version that does not. And then just classify my references appropriately. But in order to do this easily, it would help to be able to tell which referen...

Re: Subsequent Citations question
Thanks Jon. I think I'll see if the editor is flexible enough to tolerate the short title in all cases.

Subsequent Citations question
I am submitting to a journal whose style guide asks for the following: " where you are abbreviating the title in subsequent citations , give the abbreviation in square brackets, thus: T. Brickhouse and N. Smith, Socrates on Trial [Trial] (Princeton, 1981), 91–4." So I know how to set this ...

Font size for what you see on the screen
I'm getting old and my eyes are not as good as they used to be. So I would like to know how to increase the font size for...pretty much everything and anything I see on the screen when I have bookends open: The list of groups on the left, the text in the list of references in the main panel, the tex...

Re: Highlight References the text turns white
Hi Jon, Thanks for your quick reply (as always). I have a terrible memory, but I could swear that until a few day ago all the references were in black font, regardless of the background colour? Am I just imagining that? And why did all the colours change when I installed Bookends on a second compute...

Highlight References the text turns white
I set up Bookends on a new Mac yesterday, and now both on the new machine and my old the font for references that have a colour label has turned white (which for me is most of them). I don't know how to make it black again. Any thoughts?
