Re: Some questions on using Bookends for syncing in a potentially unique case

Ah! Light bulb moment!!! My understanding of iCloud was ... wrong. Simply put, the iCloud Drive is akin to having a distinct volume on the local HDD or SSD, with the added benefit that anything stored in the iCloud Drive "volume" is automatically synced to an iCloud cloud storage location....

Re: Some questions on using Bookends for syncing in a potentially unique case

> Maybe you meant this and I misunderstood, in which case sorry and you can ignore this post. No apology needed. Your description is exactly as I understand. You conveyed the approach taken with iCloud sync in Bookends on both platforms much better than I did. Indeed, the description you've just giv...

Re: Some questions on using Bookends for syncing in a potentially unique case

To summarize what I have learned ... * The iCloud sync method works on macOS and iPadOS by accessing attachments stored only in the iCloud folder (or presumably a local cache mirror of that iCloud folder as needed). Neither platform uses a truly local attachment folder-one that a user can access ind...

Re: Some questions on using Bookends for syncing in a potentially unique case

I believe I see now the source of my confusion about using iCloud sync and working with attachments while maintaining a specific folder location for local copies. I have two settings to make. * Bookends Settings PANEL: General->Folder Locations->Attachment folder ---- > set this popup to Bookends iC...

Some questions on using Bookends for syncing in a potentially unique case

I have a potentially unique use case and would appreciate some clarifications / recommendations on improvements toward best practices. First the background. * My current main attachments folder resides in a location outside of the standard factory default (in my case ... /Volumes/Databases/Bookends/...

Re: Observations on Importing from a Watch Folder

Yes, I have this option checked in the Import References dialog. Perhaps you might include a similar checkbox at the import to Watch Folder configuration dialog so that Import References and Import to Watch Folder can operate separately in setting as Hit or not. Glad this is now resolved! In the mea...

Re: Observations on Importing from a Watch Folder

Test with this procedure. * Open a Library that was created under the previous version of BE. * Set a Watch Folder to Move the file and rename it. Point to a folder that is initially empty. Leave the move to group setting to All. * Do not close the Library. * Go to the Finder and put a PDF file into...

Re: Observations on Importing from a Watch Folder

I tested again and this time, the reference did not get marked to the Hit list. I will review in closer detail the set up on my system should an import also land in the Hit list in the future.

Thank you.

Re: Observations on Importing from a Watch Folder

In my case, they are made Hits. I have them set to import to the group: All. I appreciate the useful suggestion to set up a specific group to collect imports from a Watch folder.

Observations on Importing from a Watch Folder

I have a Watch Folder set up to import attachments to a Library. As near as I can tell, newly imported content is marked as a Hit. Great ... this helps to be able review the processing after the fact. But, one exception seems to apply. If the attachment reference already exists in the library, the n...

Re: Remove attachments from batch

Yes storage is cheap these days but honestly, I'd rather not invest in iCloud storage (I'm no where near close to capping it by the way). It was just the fact that the PDF exists in two places. It's not a big deal at all really, just one that has gone on for a couple of years of research and I'm on...

Re: More than one computer (a user has no need for this)

Just a general FYI on CloudKit and iCloud.

Otherwise, I prefer and greatly appreciate using WiFi sync in BE. It allows me a finer control over what does and does not sync.

Re: More than one computer (a user has no need for this)

My reservations about iCloud (and CloudKit) for syncing things remain. Yes, latency and robustness are two different things. Otherwise, I mean absolutely no disrespect, and indeed full respect, to Bookends. Thanks also for the clarifications on File-> Backup. I look for the report on WiFi sync, wher...

Re: Allow right click (to copy citations) when Bookends in background

> As to the search in floating citations, it's not as detailed as the library live search, and doesn't have the option to use non-indexed searching. But it did, it would find your tagged references without ambiguity if you only used them in Notes. OK. I tested the "#result" search directly...
