Experience with Bookends versus ReadCube Papers

I had a moment to compare working in Bookends to working in ReadCube Papers. The friction for me to do certain things in Bookends became glaring. Here are some examples: * Try sorting a list in the main panel to bring to the top only those files that have attachments or not. → NOT POSSIBLE * Try sel...

Re: Collaboration with co-authors--ideas?

My lesson is that only one platform should be used for reference management and only one person should be in charge of citation management. Reference management is all about collecting the information. You all need to have the same platform where you post the information and can all go to find that ...

Re: Is there any interest in syncing Bookends for iOS with Zotero?

I will hope to dump Mendeley, primarily because it is dropping its iOS client. My team uses Windows. I need a replacement. Zotero has been recommended on Mac Power Users. Having Bookends to manage my own library (not in Zotero) and my team's library (in Zotero) as separate entities would be wonderfu...

Re: Struggling with Managing Attachments *En Masse*

> You seem to want some other kind of app focusing on file management, which is not a reference-centric app like Bookends. Maybe the DEVONTHINK apps would be helpful. I don't see the point of addressing these issues again (and won't). (sigh) I respect your decision. I simply want to be able to manag...

Re: No Split View Mode for Two Libaries?

The problem appears to be that the minimum width of the window for Bookends is too large to fit in half of a 16in MacBook Pro screen in its default resolution mode. Two library windows cannot be put exactly side by side on that screen -- they overlap. Folks who have screens that are 16in or smaller ...

Re: No Split View Mode for Two Libaries?

The issue was resolved by doing a restart. I should have tried that first.

Re: Struggling with Managing Attachments *En Masse*

I will simply say that having a dedicated view panel/window where one can administer everything related solely to attachments will significantly lower the friction that any user might otherwise face when trying to manage attachments, let alone when trying to manage them *en masse*.

Struggling with Managing Attachments *En Masse*

I am struggling with limitations to manage attachments *en masse*. Here are two specific issues. * I have attachments that somehow go orphaned. However, the main view panel shows that an attachment is present. The only way that I find out that an attachment is missing on a reference is to go to the ...

Re: No Split View Mode for Two Libaries?

I can do split-view to show two different

* projects in Curio
* vaults in Obsidian
* documents in BBEdit
* spreadsheets in Numbers
...

So the limitation seems to be within Bookends.

No Split View Mode for Two Libaries?

I would like to view two different citation libraries side-by-side in split-view mode. I can put a library window in split-view mode with a different app. However I cannot put two different libraries in split-view mode.

OK. I'll step back for the next update.

Re: Inconsistencies When Working with Attachments

Just so that we agree on what we disagree about. The ability to manage an attachment through the menu options under the gear icon in this toolbar is useful. withpdf.png I suggest that the ability to manage an attachment through the menu options under the gear icon should remain visible even when the...
