Agricola/NAL Article Citation Database

Does anyone have a good import filter for the Agricola/Nat. Agricultural Library Article Citation Database? The one included with Bookends only seems to import the author and title correctly.

I used to have a working filter, but I think I accidentally overwrote it!

Thanks.

What about OpenDocument?

I downloaded NeoOffice/j and I have to say I wasn't terribly impressed (slow, ugly, etc.). It does have an "add-on" capability (haven't downloaded the docs to see how), but it's not compatible with VBA. I may add automatic paste of copied citations (drag and drop works now), but probably not much ...

Open Document, support for NeoOffice/J or OpenOffice

Hey Jon,

Do you have any plans to add support to Bookends for scanning the Open Document format? I'm migrating to OpenOffice/NeoOfficeJ for my word processing, and it would be great to be able to scan in the Open Document format (which is now the native format for OpenOffice), rather than covert my ...

Re: Sorting

I like my reference list to be sorted by date, in descending order. When I quit and restart Bookends, it always opens the database in ascending date order. Is there a way to offer a choice of descending or ascending order in the list preferences and/or to retain the descending display after ...

More features

I'm really enjoying the new features in 8.1, but I have a couple of other requests.

For some reason, having the info sidebar open prevents me from moving up or down the reference list with my arrow keys. (Actually, it works for moving up or down one reference, then stops.) Could this be fixed ...

Problem (probably) resolved

Hi casey,

First, check the PubMed import filter and make sure that you have the automated search option checked ON. If you do, send me the filter and I'll look at it.

Bookends uses the web services interface for PubMed. It's identical to the one used in a browser. I think you can search by entry ...

Automated PubMed search not working

My automated PubMed searches do not seem to be executed anymore. The automation worked briefly, but now I no longer get any search results even after weeks of not running Bookends. (The search date is updated in the search list, however.) I have the frequency set to 1 day, and I made sure all of the ...

Re: Managing search results and attachments

The ability to mark individual references in Search Results the same way they can marked in List View. This would make full-text retrieval and transfer to Lists more convenient.

This has been discussed before, and the problem is that the same kind of checkbox used for marking would be confusing ...

Re: PMID, iPapers, Spotlight, etc. and 2 feature requests

So, I guess our (if I'm not misunderstanding) wish is
- A click of a hit in the internet search and URL field of reference window (or another new "download" button) takes us to the download page directly
- by not opening Safari but a window in Bookends (like iPapers), and
- download the pdf file ...

Re: PMID, iPapers, Spotlight, etc. and 2 feature requests

Why again is naming the file by PMID useful in Bookends? Because you can download with iPapers and then transfer?

Nope. It's not really useful to Bookends, but it allows people to organize their refs with a unique ID that corresponds to a universal database (PubMed) and allows us to use iPapers ...

PMID, iPapers, Spotlight, etc. and 2 feature requests

Dear Jon,

Thanks for a wonderful alternative to Endnote and for your excellent responsiveness. I'm still in the testing prior to purchase phase, so please excuse any obvious fixes I may not have discovered yet.

To follow up on some of the points in this discussion:

Looking at Apple's website, it ...
