Re: iCloud Recently Deleted attachments recovery
@DrJJWMac I agree that iCloud is not reliable, from this and other experiences. Its value is sync'ing with portable devices when I am not near my computer. Fortunately, I do keep other backups for reasons mentioned. I posted here because the magnitude and recency of data loss might be of interest to...

Re: iCloud Recently Deleted attachments recovery
Every time I access file recovery iCloud has to rediscover the files.
More information: I am able to mark for recover 20-30 PDFs at a time. Any more than that fails.

iCloud Recently Deleted attachments recovery
Many attachments have been disappearing from Bookends. One search hint suggested that that they might be found in iCloud recently deleted files. I was surprised to find over 5000 files there, almost all of them the missing PDF attachments. There were only a few other files mixed in. Unfortunately, w...

Trouble with large author or institution field contents
I have recently stumbled upon an anomaly that repeatedly caused crashes of Bookends 14.1.6 running on macOS Ventura 13.1. Posting this in case anyone else has come upon the same problem. If the right display panel was closed, there was no problem. If the right panel was open when selecting a referen...

Re: Watch folder greyed out, not importing
In answer to the second suggestion, my main working library was open. I also had tried creating a duplicate library and rebuilding it. Neither restarted importing from the watch folder. I downloaded a new copy of 4.1.6 and installed it, replacing the current copy. Thereafter, the watch folder menu o...

Watch folder greyed out, not importing
My watch folder stopped working. Through many version upgrades it has worked well. Now under the Bookends File menu the options for "Import From Watch Folder" are greyed out, both "Start Watching" and "Configure...". The folder has not moved (iCloud Drive > iDownloads/B...

Bookends quit unexpectedly in Monterey
After macOS upgrade from Catalina to Monterey (12.3.1) Bookends quits repeatedly and unexpectedly. When next run again it asks whether it is OK to use the same database (there are journal files waiting to be processed). There is no other apparent damage. The last work I was doing is retained. When I...

Re: PDF annotation changes -- comments
I have had the same problem, with the popover only staying up for about 1 second. Too brief to do anything. After quitting every other running app (using cmd-tab) the popover was still transient. I quit and restarted Bookends 14.0.6 and the popover stayed open, without resorting to Safe Mode.

Re: Default bibliography formats disappeared
I think your hypothesis may be correct that macOS security policies are not consistent. Bookends does have Full Disk Access, yet this occurred. Fortunately, on this occasion it had an easy resolution. I've "downgraded" to Catalina partly because these problems were much more frequent and d...

Re: Searching for references without attachments
Would it be possible to add a selectable and sortable column for the list of references by ticking "Attachments" in the List page of Bookends Preferences? This would also make it easy to scan a list of reference authors or titles compared to the attachment file names, rather than having to...

Default bibliography formats disappeared
When I opened Formats Manager to select a different format, I was surprised to find only a few of the many default formats in that now very short list with my few custom formats. All of the formats appeared to be present in the ~/Library/Application Support/Bookends/Formats/ folder. After quitting B...

Formats FTP login
I need to download a replacement for a corrupt format file. Each time I go to the FTP site I am challenged to sign in. Guest and anonymous as given in various forum posts and in all combinations of username and password do not work. Nor do my forums username and password. What is needed to access fo...
