Re: In-text citations started to format differently and not creating bibliography?
I just quit and restarted, and...of course...that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks so much for your help and quick responses. I'm amazed at how you manage to be so prompt in answering questions. Thank you!

Re: In-text citations started to format differently and not creating bibliography?
I did exactly what I did with the other paper: In Word I tap "control" twice to bring up the Bookends menu, click on "copy citation and modifiers" and entered the data (like page number) and then press enter.

In-text citations started to format differently and not creating bibliography?
I was working on one of two papers and all went well (thanks, Bookends!). :D But now I'm working on my second paper, and though I don't think I did anything differently, the in-text citations (in Harvard format) are appearing oddly and not able to create a bibliography. I have attached a screen shot...

Re: No space between author names?
Thanks. That didn't seem to be the problem so I ended up restarting Bookends and it worked fine. Thanks again.

No space between author names?
I am working with Harvard format and things were going well for my bibliography and I was making adjustments and re-scanning my document trying to get the "2nd ed" entered properly. I did, but even though I don't think I did anything to the author field, now all of my authors, including bo...

Re: Not including DOI if empty?
Thanks so much for your quick response on both questions. The doi fix seems great.
As for the quotation marks, I guess my question is actually because the single quotation marks look a bit odd -- like the first one is backwards. Maybe that's just how they are supposed to look.
Thanks,
Hilary

Not including DOI if empty?
I'm trying to format my bibliography. I want to include the doi number if it has one. I have watched the video tutorial and read the manual, but I'm still having trouble as it shows up even if the field is empty. My latest attempt is this but it still doesn't work and the text "doi" still ...

Re: Watch Folder loads unpredictably?
Hmm, I found it in the files but all the information (title, abstract, author) was completely different!

Re: Watch Folder loads unpredictably?
I'm having a similar problem. WIth one article it loads up almost immediately, but now the other ones I try don't seem to be working at all. I even tried the drag and drop method but that didn't seem to work, either. Am I doing something wrong? The files seem to disappear when they go to the watch f...

Re: Bracket at the beginning and end of scanned document?
For me I think it was a stray "bookmark" or two. No idea I had put them in there, but taking them out didn't seem to matter.

Re: Bracket at the beginning and end of scanned document?
Thanks, I'll look at trying to figure out what Word may be doing.

Bracket at the beginning and end of scanned document?
I've noticed a strange bracket at the beginning and end (two there) of my scanned Word document. I can't seem to remove it. I think it has to do with the scanning. Anyone else had this happen? Any suggestions for removing them?

Citing a secondary source
I am trying to figure out how to insert a secondary source in Bookends. For instance, in Smith 2009 p. 100 footnote 3 lists Attfield 1990 p. 34 that I want to cite. So I want my in-text citation to look like this: (See Attfield, 1990, p. 34, cited in Smith, 2009, p. 100) Also, I want to make sure bo...

Re: Help with user-defined field
Thank you, but I still have some questions. In Preferences, I see "Fields to display" and Columns to use, but I don't see that I can change the name. Are you saying just put the location in one of those "unused" fields even though the name doesn't say my specific category? If I d...

Help with user-defined field
I have looked in the manual but I didn't find how to designate a user-defined field. I don't see this in Preferences either. My questions are: how do I actually designate it to be what I want (like "location" for what library it is in)? how do I make sure I won't be overriding something im...
