Context-sensitive Citation Options (Biblio > Formats Manager)
I have a paper that needs APA style . as such, sometimes I want my citations to look like this in the output: Author (Year) other times I want: (Author, Year). Biblio > Formats Manager> Citation Options > has "Enclose citations with" with a single field, forcing a specific choice throughou...

Re: Bookends and Hookmark
It's up to Craft to decide what to do with the link, not Bookends. Bookends places both the native link as well as the markdown link (as text) in the clipboard. Craft seems to ignore the user-exposed text, accepting the native link URL only, and treating it as text, not a link. The information Book...

Re: Merge two refs?
I have a similar need. I can get meta-data from a different source (in RIS format), and would like to apply those meta data to a Bookends reference. May need to do this a large number of times.

Hook's Bookends script now support `Reveal File in Finder`
In previous version of Hook integration with Bookends, Hook's `Reveal File in Finder` command was disabled. Now it's enabled. That means you can now use the same command ( Hook > `Reveal File in Finder`) also in Bookends to reveal the current file in Finder, assuming the current entry has an attachm...

Hook `Copy Link` name format for Bookends references
Hi there, I'm a co-founder of CogSci Apps that makes the Hook productivity Mac app, and recent convert to Bookends. (I'm also an adjunct professor of Cognitive Science and of Education at Simon Fraser University.) First a bit of context : The Hook app (amongst other things) enables users to copy a l...

How to disable the floating citation, or change its keyboard shortcut?
How does one disable the floating citation, or change its keyboard shortcut? background: I'm accidentally triggering the floating citation window a lot :( . So, I apologize as I assume I'm missing something obvious which must be a FAQ. However, I've searched the manual, this website, menu items, Pre...

Re: Preserving PDF's xattr (extended file attributes) on import to Bookends -- to preserve Skim PDF annotations
There are no current plans to support Skim-specific annotations. These annotations are not stored in the PDF, but in the extended attributes of the file system (you know that, I'm mentioning this for anyone who reads this thread). As long as Bookends (in a 1-Mac scenario) does not overwrite Skim's ...

Re: Preserving PDF's xattr (extended file attributes) on import to Bookends -- to preserve Skim PDF annotations
PS, I realize and accept that those annotations would not be useful with the Bookends iOS app (no iOS app can deal with Skim annotations yet to my knowledge [an opportunity for PDF developers]). I dislike reading PDFs on iPad or iPhone [reading to me equally means writing, and that I prefer to do on...

Preserving PDF's xattr (extended file attributes) on import to Bookends -- to preserve Skim PDF annotations
Per [my prior post](https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5352), I've successfully imported my PDFs from Finder (Papers3) into Bookends -- except: the extended file attributes do not seem to have been imported. None of my Skim annotations are visible. Skim annotations are stor...

Re: (How) can we import PDFs from Finder to Bookends while preserving the inode (i.e., a "mv") or filename ("copy")
Thank you, Jon. I've imported the references and papers into Bookends, following your instructions (minus toggling sync). The file names seem to all be preserved (method 2), and Hook is reattaching its links. I will soon verify more thoroughly to be sure, and post some tips for migrating from Papers...

(How) can we import PDFs from Finder to Bookends while preserving the inode (i.e., a "mv") or filename ("copy")
I have all my PDFs in Finder (from Papers 3). I would like to move them into Bookends in such a way as to preserve either their inode or file name. Is there a way to do that? The best case for me would be if Bookends' import function has the option to use the equivalent of a UNIX _move_ (or Finder m...
