Re: Smart group sorted by date added to Bookends?
How does one retrospectively modify the date added parameter of a book or an article, or any other type of record (per the OP's inquiry above)? This would be very useful in some cases, but I can't figure out how to do this. Many Mac apps (both 1st party and 3rd party) offer this functionality. For e...

Re: does Bookends support Finder tags that include apostrophes?
Thanks for your prompt reply. Unfortunately removing the apostrophe from the tag isn't an option for me as I use this tag (and several others with apostrophes) in multiple other apps and workflows (haven't had any problems). Is there any chance this issue could be addressed in a future release of Bo...

does Bookends support Finder tags that include apostrophes?
I have several smart groups that help me quickly view papers that have a particular Finder tag, e.g. "archeology." I just created a new smart group corresponding to a Finder tag that includes an apostrophe. However when I click on this smart group it doesn't display any papers that are so-...

smart groups inexplicably stopped working
Help! My smart groups inexplicably stopped working. I have a substantial library of PDFs, many of which are tagged (e.g. ‘archeology’, or ‘projectXYZ’). I have created smart groups corresponding to the tags I use most frequently — in this way I can click on the e.g. ‘archeology’ smart group and see ...

Re: how to de-select a record in library window?
Thank you very much, I'm delighted to hear this. It's a relatively small thing to be sure, but nevertheless consistent with longstanding Macintosh UI standards. I'm sure Bookends users present and future will be grateful for this functionality (even if some weren't ever aware it wasn't present).

Re: how to de-select a record in library window?
Item deselection is not a functionality that is desperately needed, but sometimes it can be convenient. A loose analogy might be to an old-school card catalog in a library. One can always have a card (or a box of cards) pulled out at any given time, but sometimes, e.g. at the end of the day, it's ni...

how to de-select a record in library window?
I currently have a record/article selected in my library, and so the associated preview below and metadata in the sidebar to the right are displayed. Question: how can I de-select a record? For example, in Finder and many other standard Mac applications (e.g. Mail, iTunes) that display list views on...

request: automatic records listing upon importing new reference
When I import a PDF into Bookends (e.g. via moving the file into my watch folder) the newly imported reference does not appear in my library's list of references. Instead, I need to manually "refresh" the listing by temporarily switching from the active group to any other and then back to ...

Re: PDF preview of newly added items starts at the very end of the PDF?
I've experienced the same behavior. It happens frequently but inconsistently. I'm using 13.5.5 on two separate Macs, one running macOS 10.14.6, the other running macOS 10.15.7.

Re: using iCloud Drive for synching attachments
No, you can't use the iCloud Folder for iOS Sync between Macs -- as I said that folder is created by iOS). It's easy enough to switch attachment folders in the future if you need to. Thanks for the further instruction. So now I understand what options to choose if I want to sync two Macs, or sync a...

Re: using iCloud Drive for synching attachments
Yes, you'd select Other and then your folder in the iCloud Drive (which you can indeed use with Cloud Sync). Note that if you use Bookends for iOS those PDFs won't be synced with your iOs devices. We could offer iCloud Drive as a dedicated option in that popup, but I think that would be very confus...

using iCloud Drive for synching attachments
This might be a rookie question, but I'm trying to setup synchronization of my attachments for the first time and am a little confused. I see in Preferences > General that there are options to choose Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and "other." There's also an option titled &quo...

Re: can the width of the right-most column be adjusted?
thanks for the thoughtful suggestion. I tried that, but unfortunately it doesn't resolve the issue of the horizontal scroll bar that is present in (at least most standard) Mac applications whenever the amount of horizontal information present exceeds that which can fit within the dimensions of the w...
