I have solved this problem by creating a comprehensive Book format:

Ah, thank you, Jon. I was getting confused between the single ^ and double ^.

I have tried using the following snippet but it always renders Pages regardless of whether or not I list a single page or a range.

For example:

When there is one page:
Attridge, Harold A. “Jewish Historiography.” Page 311 in Early Judaism and Its Modern Interpreters . Edited by Robert A. Kraft and George W. E. Nickelsburg. Philadelphia: Fortress; Atlanta: Scholars Press, 1986.

When there are multiple pages:
Attridge, Harold ...

I need to render the word Page when one page is referenced or Pages when multiple pages are referenced.
The example above renders the logic, and now I am trying to figure out how to replace p and pp, respectively, with page and pages.

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I finally got some feedback from my supervisor:

“Van” is always a part of the surname, so Frederick Van Zyl Slabbert in a works cited list becomes: Van Zyl Slabbert, Frederick.

You guessed correctly, I am using SBL. I have the SBL 2nd edition and could not find a definitive answer yet so I have punted this to my supervisor for review. I have learned that Slabbert is considered a last name on its own in South Africa and it's plausible that Van Zyl may be a middle name, Van ...

Incidentally, "van" in Afrikaans means surname and this is from a South African author so the lower case on the "van" may be appropriate. Hmmm, something for me to consider before making my final submission.

I can seem to find on the forum or figure out how to enter an author with spaces in their last name. For example, I have an author - Frederick Van Zyl Slabbert - who shows up incorrectly in my citations and bibliography as Slabbert. I recently switched over to Bookends so am still ...

The fix was to turn off Live Bibliography. However, there was also something wrong with the document, according to Mellel, and after creating a new document, the issue went away.

UPDATE - if I turn off "Live Update" in the bibliography panel in Mellel the popup goes away until I do a manual scan when I am ready to generate my citations and bibliography. No other solution has presented itself at this time.
