Re: The app won't open after the last update
would it make sense that silent but critical bug-fixing updates are also announced when starting the bookends app (as it is the case for regular updates)?

Re: A.I. integration?
Dear Jon, As far as I am aware, Apple's AI is currently not available outside of the United States. Do you plan to integrate the OpenAI or Claude API in the future, allowing users to provide the license keys for these services? Or do you not see significant benefits in supporting other AI providers ...

Re: That built-in Export to Bookends script in DEVONthink!
Thank you for your help! What would be a good starting point for using DTP and Bookends together? There seem to be numerous threads and scripts floating around both in this forum and the DTP forum, but it's challenging to determine which AppleScripts are still valid and which might be outdated. Is t...

Re: A.I. integration?
PapersApp is now also experimenting with AI: https://www.papersapp.com/highlights/supercharge-your-research-with-the-ai-assistant/. I appreciate the approach of Bookends developer Jonathan to keep a close eye on this. Bookends doesn’t need to be among the first to implement AI—it’s better to integra...

Re: Undo on shift click toggle hit states
Thank you for the great idea to use a "process" static group. May I ask how you move the items afterwards to the "final" group? If you drag and drop them from the "process" group to another group, they will remain in both groups—am I wrong?

Re: Undo on shift click toggle hit states
Dear Jon This is fantastic... I didn't know that - very useful... There is an even better way to quickly add references to a group that is as frictionless as ticking a checkbox: 1. The groups pane has a cloverleaf icon in the header, abutting the right edge. That's a column. 2. With a static group, ...

Re: Undo on shift click toggle hit states
I didn't know about the shift-click "feature". What exactly does it? when I shift-click on an item in the library nothing happens.

Re: Scanning with Bookends for iOS and Mellel Mobile
The interaction between both apps on the iPad is simply fantastic. Previously, writing manuscripts on the iPad was a cumbersome process, but now it is remarkably smooth. Even after exporting Mellel documents created on the iPad to DOCX format, they can be unscanned and re-scanned with Bookends on ma...

Re: That built-in Export to Bookends script in DEVONthink!
I do all my management of my literature in bookends directly. What is the advantage of combining both apps?

Re: A.I. integration?
Yes, I think it's a good approach for Bookends to wait for the developer release of AI features/API in the next macOS version. I am not sure what AI could do for us in Bookends. Which features would you consider? - Asking questions that are answered using the items in a selected group? - Searching f...

Re: Anyone affected by visual glitch in bookends sidebar?
Since the last macOS update to Sonoma 14.6, the visual glitch bug has not appeared. I will continue to monitor it. Jon from Bookends was correct; it was not Bookends' fault. It is strange that it occurred only in Bookends and not in any other app with a sidebar list. I hope it doesn't reappear. I th...

Preview of bookends and CSL styles
I appreciate that the Formats Manager offers two options: customized Bookends format styles and CSL styles. Whenever possible, I use Bookends styles, as they can be customized directly within Bookends. However, when I need to re-submit a paper to a new journal on a tight deadline, it's helpful to ha...

Anyone affected by visual glitch in bookends sidebar?
Dear Bookends Community I have noticed a visual glitch in bookends 15.02 (macos 14.5) when trying to drag and drop a pdf from the desktop into a static group on the sidebar and moving with the mouse from group to group. see screenshot. The bookends support was very helpful but could not reproduce th...
