Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights

You say that the save dialog is not prepopulated with the file name. I'm not sure what you mean. The proposed file name is the library name folloed by "PDF annotations". What do you see? The proposed filename I see is "[Library Name] PDF Annotations" and the default location is ...

Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights

Got it. Well, at a first glance it seems to me that the new features are awesome and I am 99% confident that I’ll be able to eliminate Highlights app from my automated workflow. I will have to see how reliably I can use apple script to get BE to generate the Extracted Annotations text file, copy the...

Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights

Thank you!

A quick first question: is the new "extract PDF annotations" command scriptable (other than via scripting UI instructions?)

Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights

Jon, I've been away from work for a few months (first baby!) and it looks like a lot has changed in the Bookends & PDF workflow "scene". I look forward to exploring what's new and no doubt I'll reach out to you and the forum members here with any follow up questions. Meanwhile thank yo...

Re: Suggestions on improving bookends IOS

Just as a counterweight, I want to note here that I use Bookends precisely because it does NOT require you to use either DropBox or Google Drive in order to sync with iPad. Those are both plagued systems with a terrible history (and, surely, future) with respect to privacy and security. Even disrega...

Re: v3.7.3 issue with Standard in-app purchase

I briefly saw an advert when I first opened the updated app.
In the settings, it showed that all in app purchases were already purchased (green checkmarks). I pressed “restore purchases” for good measure. Didn’t get any feedback after pressing it, but also have not seen any adverts since.

Re: Is there any interest in syncing Bookends for iOS with Zotero?

I am late to this, but I’ll throw in my 2c: I have no interest in this feature. Two main reasons: 1. Zotero has moved to its own proprietary PDF annotation system, which I suspect is (intentionally or not) going to act as a lock-in. If a Bookends client for Zotero is not capable of exchanging annota...

Two or three "missing" features on Bookends for iPadOS

Recently I've come to depend on publication items having a unique Bibtex citekey assigned to them right away, and even more so on the attachments being immediately renamed on import, so that if the citekey is "@Someone1999" the attachment will be "Someone1999.pdf". On these two n...

Re: Export PDF Notes and Highlights

Ken -- I wonder if you're still looking for an answer to this and/or using this workflow. I just wanted to say that I am in a similar situation. Recently I have been looking to find solutions for the same problem and, like you, I have come up with Highlights 2 and Hazel as part of my workflow. To my...

Re: Question about linked BibTex file and formatting

In the end I took a couple of days to give myself a crash course in AppleScript -- fun! -- and I've been able to do all of what I wanted and more. Bookends' scriptability has cured me of any latent desire to move to Zotero, so that's good. Thanks!

Re: Question about linked BibTex file and formatting

Thank you. I meant this plug in: https://github.com/stefanopagliari/bibnotes I like it because it gives the option to have a literature note in obsidian for each entry in your library and to one-click non-destructively update any changes in the entire library if, say, you fix some metadata. If you u...

Re: Question about linked BibTex file and formatting

I use Pandoc and have set up macOS launchd to run a script every time the BibTeX file is modified by Bookends (more details here: https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=25644#p25644 ). @iandol, thank you for pointing me to using Pandoc to convert .bib into .json, that's turning out to...

Re: NoteStream from iPad --> Mac

Thank you, Jon. I think my confusion about the nomenclature is partly down to the iPad app's interface. The official database Note and the PDF annotations are not labelled, so I hadn't even realized that the both exist on the mobile app until now, when I copied all the PDF annotations into the note ...
