Re: Open PDF in another app

I use PDF Expert for highlighting, and sharing pdf file from Bookends leads to export/saving pdf file to PDF Expert, not opening the file from its original location (attachment folder of Bookends). I think this is how PDF Expert works on iOS/iPad when opening a file from an external location. I usu...

Re: Page separator for citation format

Hi Jon,

I've sent you an email with the format file attached.

I'm not really sure where the @ before the page numbers is coming from either. I couldn't find any options that appeared to set it.

Thanks for your help!

Page separator for citation format

Hi, Following up on my post in the iOS forum (https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=5992), I was tried to get citations working as desired on Mac. I created a custom format to use with `Copy Citation` under `Scan & Bib` in settings. Setting `Field Order` to $@$u1 , I was able to g...

Copy selection as quote with citation

Is it possible on iOS to copy the currently selected text in a PDF as a quote along with a citation? What I’m thinking of is something like the following that I coukd paste as text into another app if I have temporary citations set to Pandoc: > some quoted text [@citeKey, p. 35] Is something like th...

Re: Citation key options for multiple authors

Thanks so much for adding the option to use a custom Format for Citekeys. It works exactly as I had hoped.

Re: Citation key options for multiple authors

Thanks, Dellu, for describing how it would disrupt your workflow. I'm definitely not advocating for a kind of change that would mess things up for other people. I am already aware of other ways of checking the reference information for a citation in Texstudio and other apps. The request for an addit...

Re: Moving attachments on import not working as expected

Thanks for the info. I'll make sure to check after the next update. Just to clarify: so if I have set a default attachment subfolder for a library, the expected behavior should be that any subfolder that I select in the drop down in the import dialog will be ignored? Or did I misunderstand? I though...

Moving attachments on import not working as expected

Hello, I've been adding some new references to my library yesterday and today by dragging and dropping PDFs on to the list of references in the Bookends Library Window. During the process, I've selected to move the attachment to the attachment folder, and I select a subfolder from the drop down. The...

Re: Citation key options for multiple authors

Thanks iandol for the perspective. I think you’re right that no one way will meet everyone’s preferences, especially given the varying implications of author order. I wasn’t aware of the info about biomedical papers. In linguistics, it’s often the first author who is the lead contributor but I’ve al...

Re: Citation key options for multiple authors

Hi Jon, Thanks so much for considering it. I'll be glad to hear what others have to say as well. One reason I've personally used citekeys formatted this way is that it includes the relevant parts of the formatted in-text citation as well. So when I'm reading through the LaTeX or Markdown source, see...

Citation key options for multiple authors

Hello, Would it be possible to add an option to configure the author part of BibTeX citation key generation for references with multiple authors such that: 1. If there are two authors, output the last names of both authors separated by a period: lastname1.lastname2 2. If there are more than two auth...

Re: Bookends Siri Shortcuts Forum

Here is an initial version of the CrossREf shortcut I mentioned: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/9cf33883c11749e8bbcd058057b34a93 For now, it accepts text from any app. The text is expected to be in a format that could be use to find a DOI, such as: Croft, William. 2022. Morphosyntax: constructions...
