Re: Bookends and Apple Pages '09
Jon, I installed it now to try the service. So far, it works fine. After installing the "plug-in", I could add a button clicking on which will upload the file to the service. They implemented this through SIMBL, which allows to develop hacks for cocoa apps. So, I don't know whether this wo...

Re: Bookends and Apple Pages '09
Hi all, I have no insight into the technical details of Pages and its interaction with other applications. But it struck me that the provider of a document sharing service ( http://www.getbackboard.com/ ) is advertising to upload Pages 09 files to its servers via a "toolbar button" in Page...

Linking to another Reference?
Is is it possible to insert a hypertext link in the abstract or notes field? That would be handy in order to allow for a kind of (cross) reference to other references in the database.

As a workaround for Small Caps in Mellel I can think of a search and replace action in Mellel. Once Jon will have the distinction between caps and small caps implemented you could search for all letters sized 7 points (or what ever will be the size Bookends will be scaling down to) and then replace ...

I am on a German keyboard too, and it works fine here using <,command. I remember some time ago, Bookends had a menu command associated with this shortcut, but Jon changed it to something else. So I assume it can't be Bookends. However, I experienced a similar problem with Word as well as Bookends t...

As far as I know Pages isn't very scriptable (or scriptable at all?), and so there is no way that BE can work with it. Pages 08 is scriptable; as for other versions I don't know. But I am still learning Apple Script, so it will be interesting to hear what Jon thinks as to its possible interaction w...

vanished posting
Am I seeing postings that are not there?
I could swear, a couple of hours ago, there was a reply to this posting by Jon, saying that he is thinking about integrating a web-browser into Bookends. Now it is gone!

When testing Bookends 10 two days ago, I felt, like the original poster, that I wanted the keywords field back in the main tab. But I am not so sure about it anymore. First it is a priority for me to have all those fields that include (essential) bibliographic information of a reference in one place...

In order to make Skim the main PDF-reader for PDF-documents attached to Bookends references you can open the default folder where the attached documents are stored. So, this works only when you allow Bookends to move the attached documents to this folder! Then search for all PDFs in that folder and ...

They can be based on any almost property, including arbitrary. That's what I'm suggesting in this case -- you want to assign arbitrary Types, when I think you would be much better off assigning the references to arbitrary (static) groups. Sorry, Jon. I can't follow you here. Do you refer to static ...

Danny and Jon, thanks for your replies. Indeed, several reference types do already include different references, but I might be able to push this a little further. Groups based on keywords seem like a reasonable but laborious solution, because I will have to go through all my references and add an a...
