Re: Endnote 8 XML to Bookends -- problems with filter
Hi - I'm converting from Endnote 8 and having some problems with the import process. Exporting in XML generally works better, but there seem to be some errors in mapping Endnote fields. I'm seeing problems, too -- with EndNote 7. For example, the Call Number field isn't being properly mapped in Boo...

Not with the current Spotlight as I understand it -- it indexes individual files, not monolithic databases. I've heard this might change in the future, though. Do you think it would be possible to follow the example of an application such as the MacOS X Address Book, which has a monolithic database...

SFX / OpenURL support
I'd like to see support in Bookends for looking up references in SFX / OpenURL.
I'd also like to see Spotlight support.

What do people think of the interface in 8.1?
It is starting to look like an OS X app -- sort of. Shouldn't the gear symbol be more to the left? Why can't I rearrange the columns by dragging? Why are there all those shared libraries in the Bookends folder? Most OS X apps I know of consist of a single file. And Bookends isn't exactly quick to la...

The List View, yes. Actually, today we decided that there was enough new things (features, interface, database engine, and bug fixes) that we're going to call it 8.1. We plan on doing a *short* public beta when we think it's stable enough, which shouldn't be too long. For intrepid users only. There...

I'm not sure I remember exactly now. I think I used a larger (15 MB or so) cache, and was able to open the database by setting Reference View as the default in Preferences. Then I selected All references (made them hits), exported to a Bookends file, and then imported that file to a fresh database....

Matthias, you're silly -- or just cheap. SuperDuper! is more flexible than CCC, and works perfectly under Tiger!matthias wrote:I was always under the impression that only ccc can do that, but that ccc is not yet working with tiger. Actually this is one of the main reasons why I have not yet switched to Tiger.

Spotlight 2 ;-)
Sorry, I disagree about the utility of Spotlight for Bookends. Clearly it currently makes no sense for large monolithic files. However, Spotlight 2 will have the ability to search them. Can you see that if this were possible, it would be nice to have Bookends databases turn up in global Spotlight s...

Frankly, even if we could get to a specific record in a database via Spotlight, it buys very little. The only scenario in which I think it would make any sense is if you had many Bookends databases (because Bookends does not allow you to search more than one concurrently). Other than that, a Spotli...

Spotlight would be terrible for this sort of thing. Say you want to find a reference containing the word 'Shakespeare'. You'd use Spotlight...after 60 seconds it would have found dozens of articles on your computer containing this word, including a Bookends database. You'd launch the Bookends datab...
