Well, in the absence of informed opinion...if you give "others" read/write access to the Bookends folder, does that solve the problem? (I'm using Get Info in the Finder on the Bookends folder to see the options.)

First, upgrade to 8.0.3. It fixes a number of issues, one of which could result in loss of data when deleting references.

Second, I don't know the answer -- perhaps someone else can come up with a solution.

One downside is that the only options seem to be to create a new document with the temporary citations replaced with no hidden information (so, no unscan or rescan) or not create a new document, in which case the temporary citations are not replaced.

Right. Hidden information is an option only ...

One thing before I do, though: What I'm using are bookmarks and references, not Word's "cross-reference" function, which I find unwieldy. It may rely on the same underlying technology, but I'm not sure -- in principle, bookmarks could be different from cross-references, and only cross-references ...

You don't say which version of Word you are using, X or 2004.

This page explains the problems with cross-references/bookmarks and Word X:

http://www.sonnysoftware.com/issues.html

In short, it is a bug in Word X. You can work around it by saving as RTF and scanning that.

The bug was fixed in Word ...

Hi Paul,

There is no automatic way of accumulating references from multiple independent documents. So the easiest thing to do in this case would be to make one large document, scan that, and place the bib at the end.

There is a workaround, which is perhaps too involved to be of interest to you ...

Re: formatting question

Is there a way to format the output when creating a bibliography from Bookends such that there is a carriage return between entries?

Yes. Add the ¬ character (Option-L) at the end of a format to force another carriage return.

Another questions--Is there a way to do things like tell the program ...

Re: bug when changing pref, lists

I believe this is a bug. When in Preferences, Lists, I changed the fields to display options for column 4 and later column 5. Both times when I changed the options the main window disappeared and I had to reopen the database.

Hi,

It's not a bug, it is done intentionally (and in fact, this is ...

Thanks for the warning, but I know about the vulnerability, and updated to phpBB 2.0.11 months ago (although the update.php didn't work, and the web page said the version was 2.0.9). I have upgraded to 2.0.13 now.

Hi Matthias,

That message simply means an index is bad. No need to download Bookends again -- rebuilding the index (Database Maintenance) will fix it.

We recently found that in some cases deleting many references at once can cause this to happen, and are working on it. But in our tests it does not ...

Shayne, have you tried this with titles? If I remember correctly, the case setting only works with Roman text (because it is meaningless for Japanese). Does it change Japanese text when you use it?

I'm not sure what you want. To redefine a Type (in Preferences)? Or to change Type A to Type B in a subset of references?

If the former, it will apply to all references. You have 27 Types, that you can define globally.

If the latter, Global Change -> Change Reference Type is the way to do it. Use ...

Re: Sharing with EndNote?

How can I send someone else my library to be read on Windows (w/ EndNote)?

Export as EndNote (Refer) or, if they use EndNote 7, as XML (EndNote 7). They would then import the references.

How can I sync databases with Windows/EndNote?

Export/import is the only way. I guess you could use the ...

Hi all. Bookends can't directly find the pdf in PubMed because each journal links to them differently. iPapers can do this (semi)automatically because it builds the web page in its own window, and can monitor for downloads.

This is something I'll be looking into...

At this point there are too many variable here for me to figure out what is going on. In my hands, ä is output correctly, whether or not BibTeX is turned on.

I really need concrete examples, please sent directly to me, so I can see if there is a problem or not.
