Re: Import multiple PDFs and create new references

OK, you're right. Sorry for the confusion. I was using the Find function to search the user guide, and the keywords I looked for happened to miss the first page of that section for some reason, so I wasn't able to get a clear picture of what was going on. But the first page of that section would ind...

Re: Import multiple PDFs and create new references

Thanks, it worked correctly. I was reluctant to proceed, since I hadn't been able to find anything in the manual that explicitly stated you could drag in multiple pdfs. Also—and this is undoubtedly my fault—I was surprised when the pdfs were moved from the source folder to the attachments folder. I ...

Import multiple PDFs and create new references

Ideally, I'd like to drag a bunch of PDF files from Finder into Bookends and have new a reference set up for each one automagically. If this can't be done for certain PDFs, or if such a reference already exists (I think I have already checked for this, but...), skip them with a message. Is that poss...

APA 7 Conference Proceeding format

The format shipped with Bookends isn't correct. This seems to work better:
a (d, u3`)`. t $[Paper Presentation]$. ` In `e$ (Ed++.), $f v `(`~p. ^pp. ~p-`). `l: u`.` z

Format for Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience ?

What format would be the best fit for Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience? From the examples, it looks roughly APA-ish (except abbreviated journal names in the reference list), or generally author-date, but perhaps there is a better choice?

Re: How to escape escape characters?

OK. First I tried changing the subscript character to _ but I had any number of _ in URLs, etc., so I changed it to \ (the sole remaining option), and BookEnds beachballed. After several minutes, I force quit. When I reopened it and tried opening the library again, beachball again: force quit. Then ...

How to escape escape characters?

I have a couple of references with a pipe sign in the title, like this: Perlman, G., & Horan, F. L. (1986). Report on UNIX|STAT release 5.1: Data analysis programs for UNIX and MSDOS. Behavior Research Methods, Instruments, & Computers, 18(2), 168-176. doi:10.3758/BF03201019 I think the pipe...

scan changes word theme

As my first Bookends project, I have converted a Word manuscript from Zotero to Bookends, and finally got an error-free scan. However, in the resulting document, my custom template was replaced with normal.dotm, causing the incorrect font to be used (and undoubtedly other problems). This is the most...

Re: Multiple journal names after Zotero import

OK, the first name is T2 and the second one is J2. This appears to be a bug in Zotero's export, since there were no J1s in the output and I'm assuming that T2 should be the second title line whereas J1 would be main journal name. Maybe not. I need the T2 ones. I think I'll strip them from the RIS fi...

Multiple journal names after Zotero import

I'm moving to Bookends from Zotero. I've imported all my references & pdf's with no hitches so far except one. A number of the references ended up with multiple newline separated journal names: Journal of Experimental Psychology: Learning, Memory, and Cognition J. Exp. Psychol. Learn. Mem. Cogn....

A couple of somewhat interesting discoveries

The general topic is scripting Bookends, which I know from reading the forums is not something that is likely to come anytime soon. First, I've been playing around with Word fields, mostly with INCLUDETEXT as a way of inserting things like tables and figures into a document. I was annoyed by Bookend...

Unspecialing tmp citation delimiters?

Assuming that { and } are the temporary citation delimiters, how can I enter a sentence like this one into a manuscript ?

Author (Date) format?

In author-date style, I get it that "(Author, Date)" (i.e., entire citation parenthesized) is default and "Author, Date" (i.e., no parentheses) is produced with {*xyz}, but there is another very frequent citation format, "Author (Date)", that I don't see how to produce ...
