Re: notecards, note stream, disappearing quotation marks
Regarding the text in notes in the note stream, which I usually create by quoting from a PDF attachment (using Command-Control-P) I notice that some characters are ignored (i.e. deleted), particularly dashes and often apostrophes, even if not smart ones. Is there any way to avoid this? Also, on my p...

Re: Moving to a new Mac
I have the attachments in iCloud Drive, so I assume they're taken care of.

Deleting unwanted author names in Bookends on my iPad
I frequently find multiple versions of author names, so I periodically use Term Lists to merge authors and clean up my databases. This works fine on the Mac, but the author names removed on the Mac never disappear from Bookends on the iPad, even after multiple syncs. So, for example, I have an autho...

Moving to a new Mac
I'm retiring one Mac and moving over to a new MacBook Pro. Before I go ahead, I just want to check I'm not missing anything in how to do that: Download and install Bookends on the new Mac. Copy my libraries to the new Mac. Turn off syncing on the old Mac. Turn on syncing on the new Mac. I'm probably...

Re: Tell me about your paper-writing bookends workflow
The second part of that is new to me. Do you mean that Bookends automatically writes all tags to attachments? The smart searches are more useful because they can update themselves. They also unify the bookends-internal keywords and finder tags.

Re: Tell me about your paper-writing bookends workflow
Very late to the party here, but I thought adding to the existing discussion would be more useful than starting a new thread. In a compromise with the one-big-database and different-databases-for-different-topics positions, I use two databases: One for my main research area (Foreign and Second Langu...

Re: Feature Request (Improvement/Modification to Attachment Flow)
I forgot to mention that Bookends' ability to find an appropriate cover image for books, including Japanese books, without any user intervention, is amazing, and it's what makes it possible for us to dream of the enhancements discussed here.

Re: Feature Request (Improvement/Modification to Attachment Flow)
For what it's worth, something along the lines of what's been suggested here would really interest me. To tell you the truth, I have for years wished that Bookpedia/Delicious Library could merge its features with Bookends. From my point of view, the work of organizing books into virtual shelves acco...

Can't open library in 13.1
Hello, I was wondering if anybody else is having this problem: If I try to open my reference library, Bookends immediately quits. As far as I can recall, this has started happening only since updating to 13.1. It happens on one computer running High Sierra 10.13.5, and another running Sierra 10.12.6...

Wow, I had never dreamt it had quite such a long history. Thanks very much for the info.

When was Bookends first released?
Hi, I was wondering how long Bookends has been in existence? I'm writing an article in which I want to make reference to the history of the application. I have in mind a sentence along these lines: Bookends, a single-developer application that is renowned for its frequent updates and excellent suppo...

Re: Question about how to use Bookends
Question: is there now, or might there be going forward, a way to have DTPO index my notes in BE. I know I can copy the notes into DTPO and get that, but wonder if there is a way to do it without the duplication. You could adopt one of Jon's suggestions from earlier in the thread: use both of the m...

Re: A question on databases and best practices for them
For the sake of people who may have the same question as you, and not know exactly where to look in the User Guide, I'll quote the answer here: Bookends stores reference information (author, title, date of publication, etc.) in libraries. The number of references you can store in a library is, in th...

Drag PDF to Bookends icon
Although woefully underfeatured in many ways, I've discovered that the dock icon of the program Papers will accept a dragged PDF, launching itself if necessary and importing and matching the PDF. Very convenient. Any chance of Bookends getting that feature?
