Re: Transporting preferences from one Mac to another

Thanks for the quick answer!

In the Home Library > Application Support there is a Bookends folder, yes, with a "Bookends Preferences" file. But I don't see a button "Remove Arbitrary Attachment Folders".

Transporting preferences from one Mac to another

Simple question, but I don't find the answer:

How do I transport all Bookends' preferences and settings from one computer to another, without iCloud and the like (which I don't use)?

Re: Bookends 12 released

I purchased Bookends 11 on february 16th, 2010, three years and four months ago. Since then, Jon, you prepared countless updates and improvements, and they were all free. So I'm very happy that now, by upgrading to Bookends 12, I finally get the occasion to send you some money again. Thanks for the ...

Re: New web site feedback

New website looks very bright and clean. May I ask with which application it was made?

But, to be honest, I don't understand why a field of definitely trivial importance like "Series Editors", which very few of us will use more than incidentally, has got such a prominent place.

But why should one need such an enormous field for the keywords? If it were possible to separate keywords not only by hard returns, but also in other ways, which would make it possible to group them horizontally, a much smaller field would certainly suffice.

Big compliments for this new version, Jon! It's a paid upgrade, but it will be a pleasure to send you the upgrade fee! Having said that, I must confess that my first reaction was identical to Gerson's: "where has the keywords field gone?" Like Gerson (and like many others, I presume), I us...

Backup doesn't work

An undoubtedly small but rather nasty problem: as soon as I try to backup a database (working with 9.2), the spinning wheel appears and the application refuses to respond. How could this be solved?

I too have considered using BE also as an application for taking 'independent' notes (I mean notes not tied to a particular bibliographical reference). One could simply create a new reference type called for instance "note", and use only a limited number of fields: for instance, keywords, ...

But my database is large, and my term lists very long. My keywords list, for instance, presently counts nearly 1800 items. These lists inevitably contain inconsistencies of various kinds, typographical errors, etc., which from time to time I try to eliminate. But for the reason given above, this is ...

About the scrolling back of term lists during updating

Every time one updates a term list by pressing the "Update"-button, the list scrolls back automatically to its first alphabetical item. This scrolling back makes it very difficult and time consuming to review a term list from beginning to end; therefore, in my opinion, it would be better i...

No, I didn't, and I found the tab. Thanks! But that doesn't solve my problem (of you can call it that), because most of the time I don't import references, but, like many other people, just create them by myself.

Date stamp in Bookends

I would like to put upon each item I put into my database some kind of date stamp, in order to mark the day it was inserted or revised. As far as I can see, the present version of Bookends doesn't have such an option, and Wordservice, which does offer it, unfortunately doesn't work with Bookends. Of...

I agree with Niklas and Jonathan. Those who work in the field of sciences could perhaps choose Sente too, but for those working in the humanities Bookends seems definitely the better choice.
