Conditional groups bug in Bookends 12?

Hi Jon.

I have a customized bibliography format that contains the publication date as well as the original date of publication. It looks like this for a book:

a ({u11/}d). t. l: u.

and like this for a book chapter:

a ({u11/}d). t. $In $e$ $($ed.^^eds.$), v, u14, p-. l: u.

In Bookends 12 ...

italicized et al. with author in front -- a bug?

Hi.

My custom citation looks like this:

a {u11/}d
I have checked to use et al. if > 2 Authors/eds after first name AND that et. al should be italicized.

If, under these conditions, when entering a citation into Mellel, I also choose the option to put the author in front, the citation will look ...

Thanks Jon. I think this would be a great option to have.

Re: Use year-only for repeated authors with Custom Citation

Yes, but if my custom citation looks like this:

Code: Select all

a {u11/}d
i.e. if it only uses author, date and original publishing date -- shouldn't that be enough for Bookends to figure out that this is in fact a modified author-date set-up? No titles or anything else that could get confusing.

Use year-only for repeated authors with Custom Citation Opt

Dear Jon,

it seems to me that there is no way to use year-only for repeated authors if one creates a custom citation option.

My custom citation format is basically author-date, but I have to use it because I need original dates of publication in addition to modern editions. In the basic author ...

Sort by Year of Original Publication in Citation Options?

Hi Jon,

In Citation Options, I use Sort by Year to order grouped citations. This is very useful because I don't have to worry about it when I am entering citations, I can add additional citations later etc.

But I now find it very important to indicate the original date of publication for some ...

volume without issue number in journal citations

Hi,

a typical journal formatting looks something like this:

a (d) t, j, v(i): p-.

the problem i am seeing now is that if i have a journal which has only volume - v - but no issue - i -, the formatted reference does not contain the colon before the page numbers, bur rather lumps together the ...

Re: shortcuts + automatic highlights in word 2011

Actually, this turned out to be pretty easy to do. Here's what I did in case somebody else is also interested.

To highlight temporary citations in a Word 2011 doc, I created a macro in Word that highlights anything it finds between citation delimiters (in my case { and }).

Sub test()
'
' test ...

Re: shortcuts + automatic highlights in word 2011

Thanks, Jon.

Thanks for the shortcuts link -- it works. And I just realized, that's exactly what Zotero does out of the box.

Now, for my highlighting question, I am far from suggesting the type of object that one finds in Mellel. I am really talking only about highlighting -- i.e. a very ...

shortcuts + automatic highlights in word 2011

Hi,

I have to questions about the Bookends/Word 2011 interface.

1. Would it be possible for Bookends to include shortcuts for the Apple Script, preferably the same that are used in Mellel? (Zotero Standalone does exactly that -- the shortcuts appear in the Apple Script menu).

2. Would it be ...

Re: setting up a remote database

yup. it turns out that finder only lets you access ftp servers as read only -- apple wants it that way, there is no way around it in finder. i've installed macfusion ( http://www.macfusionapp.org/ ) which lets you mount ftp and ssh servers as if they were local, so now i don't have permission issues ...

Re: setting up a remote database

thanks a lot jon, adding the .bdb suffix made it possible to select the remote db. I can also open it if I want to, so the grayed out mystery is solved.

now, when I try to sync, I get the error message "Sync failed because the remote database BibliographyDB.bdb is locked".

still one step away ...

setting up a remote database

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a remote database that I will use to sync both my desktop and my laptop with. So I manually uploaded a copy of my db to an ftp server, I have the read, write and execute privileges in the folder called bookends, which contains the db, on that server.

So, in Bookends, I am ...
