Bookends will only append letters to a year, so for example you don't get "In pressa" and "In pressb". If you don't have a year Bookends will not append a letter (you won't get "n.d.a" and "n.d.b".

The latter's what I suspected, Jon. It's not useful to have the DOI and a separate URL, I wouldn't think.

I think Bookends has the same thing, and we introduced it several years before EndNote did (this is one of several cases where they did a Microsoft to our Apple -- although I have to admit it goes both ways sometimes).
