Re: References not correctly sorted by date by same author
Thanks, Jon and nicka. I had thought of checking for errant spaces already in the names; that was OK. I went through all the Yee references in Bookends—not just the ones in this particular paper—and checked the 'Date' field. I removed everything except the year and checked for any trailing character...

References not correctly sorted by date by same author
I'm not sure if this is related to the question posed in "Author names and reference order" , but the symptoms sound vaguely similar. I'm writing a journal article and I have a number of citations by the same author. Bookends is correctly recognizing that they're the same author and append...

Re: Import BibTeX styles and DOI turning Chinese
I've also had the DOI field insisting on being some non-Roman character set on some records as well. I was never able to figure it out and now that I see someone mention it, I can't, of course, find an example. :-P If I do, I'll remember to mail support. Just thought I'd mention it so you'd know it'...

Re: Bookends 11 pre-announcememt
Will we be able to access services from text widgets in version 11? That currently doesn't work. I'm asking because I'd like to use services to help automate some clean-up of citations that are imported, e.g. change "firstName lastName" author names to "lastName, firstName" and c...

Re: Handling Multiple Undated Citations from the Same Author
Bookends will only append letters to a year, so for example you don't get "In pressa" and "In pressb". If you don't have a year Bookends will not append a letter (you won't get "n.d.a" and "n.d.b". I can see that makes sense, but then it still leaves me with ...

Handling Multiple Undated Citations from the Same Author
I'm struggling with undated citations appearing in the formatted reference list correctly. Imagine I have a paper with the following two references: The Open University. (n.d.) About the ou: The purpose of the ou, [online] The Open University. Available from: http://www.open.ac.uk/about/ou/ (Accesse...

Re: Weird Specific Requirement from Journal
The latter's what I suspected, Jon. It's not useful to have the DOI and a separate URL, I wouldn't think.
Hmmm... I'll have to think about what I want to do.
Thanks for the response.

Include DOI or URL
I have a sort of related question... Related in that it involves DOIs! I'd prefer to include a DOI in my references *IF* I have a DOI. If I don't have a DOI but I have a URL then I'd like to use that. Is there any way to construct a biblio format that can automatically do that, a kind of "condi...

I think Bookends has the same thing, and we introduced it several years before EndNote did (this is one of several cases where they did a Microsoft to our Apple -- although I have to admit it goes both ways sometimes). Check out Remove Duplicates for yourself and see... I was looking for it in the ...

If the List Window is sorted (set in the Preferences), and copy/paste were permitted in the List Window, wouldn't the duplicate end up just below the original? Yes, if the List View is sorted by author (or most fields). But if it is not, or sorted by unique ID or reference number, it would not. Pre...

Handling Papers in Conferences, Chicago in EN vs. BE
Problem Summary: Conference papers formatted in Chicago (any version) in BookEnds don't have the same output as the same style in EndNote. System Information: EndNote 7.x Bookends 8.13 Mac OS 10.4.3 Problem Discussion: I've been importing my references from EndNote 7 to Bookends by exporting the co...

Yes, I think that type discrimination is probably the ideal here. Users would, I think (I would, certainly) be willing to put up with a slower Remove Dups cycle if there were, say, a popup menu to set the type considered by Remove Dups. My intuition is that this would require a more complex interfa...
