You can export pdfs from BOT to a pdf reader, mark it up, and send it back to Bookends. I believe that whether or not it replaces the existing attachment depends on whether the markup app renames it (if so, Bookends doesn't know it's the same attachment). That doesn't help at all, unfortunately. I have no other apps running except Safari, and 4 GB working space. Even changing groups or filling some terms in the search field take 10 to 20 seconds. On the other hand, there is no statement that BE is not responding in the quitting apps window!
