Temporarily using Skim instead of Preview

I like Preview and this is the app I usually use to view PDFs etc ... except when I'm reading papers then I find Skim to be better. Is there some way to tell Bookends to use Skim while leaving Preview as the default viewer?

Re: Problem importing bibtex

I should perhaps mention that the result I get when I import the bibtex file are a bit strage. If I pick a reference at random I have a vol field that looks like this 4(3) 51(7}, issue_date = {July 2008}, issue_description = {Web science) and an addres field that looks like this New York, NY, USA}, ...

Problem importing bibtex

I've collected a number of references at ACMs Digital Library and now want to have these references in Bookends. I download them as a bibtex references and then import into Bookends which results in 147 references ... which is 52 references less than it should be. Using BibDesk I get all 199 referen...

Re: Customizing Bookends

It was clearly described in my mind :D I was thinking of changing reference types, field names/usage so that they matched what I need for BibTex, modifying the template (which obviously can be exported) --- I did this once many years ago but for some reason that I've now forgot managed to lose the p...

Customizing Bookends

I exclusively work with latex, if there is a need to use Word etc I usually let someone else do the work :D - used Word once - never again, and I'm considering to do some extensive customization to it so it fits BibTeX better. Before doing this I would like to ask a few questions: + Is there somethi...

Cross references

Is it possible to create cross-references in Bookends, with this I mean that if I create a reference to a book it is then possible to create entries for individual papers which are then cross-referenced to the book so I don't have to fill in booktitle, publisher etc for the book?

Format sorting

I'm trying to create my own format and I'm probably doing something really backwards. I'm creating a format that is supposed to generate a plain text result (HTML code that I'm going to insert on a web page) and I want the references to be sorted in reverse chronological order but I can't figure out...

Re: BibTeX quotation marks

:D The font used in the forum makes it difficult to see The way I'm taught to write this is LaTeX is ``hello'' (the last " is actually two ') From the manual I see that Bookends will convert `` to " on import (p316) and the first " after a space to `` on export (p156) ... which is per...

BibTeX quotation marks

Sorry, another newbie question. I LaTeX I create a US style quote (“hello” ) by writing ``hello''. I noticed that in Bookends I can just type "Hello" and it gets translated to ``Hello" which is very nice ... is there some way to get the last " to converted to '' also? (the manual...

BibTeX import - double dash problem

I've decided to switch to Bookends and I'm now trying to import my bibtex references. I will continue to use LaTeX as my writing tool of choice so I want to preserve the references as is (or at least as close as possible). I'm now cleaning up my bibtex file so it will import as cleanly as possible a...

Attachments and formats question

After a few years of not using Bookends I'm currently trying to figure out if it works better than my current reference manager (BibDesk). One thing I've come to appreciate with BibDesk is the automatic renaming/filing and I see that Bookends have a similar functionality, what I don't understand is ...
