instructions for serving databases to iPhone or network

Instructions for serving a Bookends database to an iPhone (or to any web browser) over a LAN: These instructions assume that you have your Bookends database on a computer connected to a Local Area Network (LAN) perhaps using a router, and you want to access your database using a web browser from oth...

So you're saying that it shouldn't matter if a reference is selected or not; if the preference is set and the article is listed on pubmed, I should always see the option to "import reference from Pubmed and then attach" if bookends can decode the doi from the pdf. I've tried this with seve...

not working for me

When I drop the icon from a pdf file containing a doi onto the list view, it invariably asks if I want the file to be attached to the selected record. Presumably if no record were selected, it might ask if I want to create a new reference. However, I have not been able to figure out how to unselect ...

Has anyone set up import filters for AMICUS, the online database from Library and Archives Canada?

Cataloguing sheet music

Is anyone using Bookends to catalogue their library of sheet music or music scores? If so, have you found any resources that permit downloading of reference information?

I was doing a bit of experimentation to get a better idea of what happens on window redraw. I included the notes field as one of the displayed fields in the list view; if I enter something in the notes field in a reference window, it will show up in the notes column in list view, and also in the not...

Your response about the list window and its drawer clued me in: the behavior I describe happens when the reference window drawer is open. When the drawer is closed, the focus is retained.

Is this a feature, or a bug

loss of field focus and cursor position when switching apps

I don't know if this has been brought up before (couldn't find anything in the forum with various searches) but I am encountering a couple of annoyances: 1. I am in the reference window, editing text within a field, say the notes field). I switch to another application, say Preview, to check the pdf...

I would gladly use EN's Endnote Export style, which exports all fields (the refer style appears to export only some of the fields), except I haven't figured out a way to maintain the links to my attached pdf's except with the xml import and export. Here is one suggestion: could you map EN custom fie...

More XML import mapping problems

I have an endnote 6 library of almost 4000 references; about 500 have attached pdf's. Based on an earlier suggestion by Jon, I've obtained a trial version of endnote 9, converted my library, and exported it as XML, so as to maintain the links to the attached pdf files. That process has worked quite ...

Thank you for your rapid response, Jon. I will see if I can do that with a trial copy of endnote.

how to export image link info from endnote?

I have the same problem, an EndNote 6 database with about 3000 references, of which about 550 have pdf files attached. I have tried editing the endnote export style to include the image, with a %K prefix. When importing into BookEnds, the file name shows up in the Keywords field, but without the pre...
