Well, ideally note-specific keywords would be perfect.. Hi, Gerben. Wouldn't the current BE keywords field be sufficient for this task? Granted, if multiple notes per record are implemented, the keywords wouldn't be note-specific, but you could still easily add keywords that span multiple notes for...

But what is the PubMed equivalent, then, that would allow you to look up the reference information (author, title, etc.) based on the doi and get it back in an intelligible form? I don't think there is an equivalent in, say, the humanities, or individual disciplines within, or at least one that wou...

*Not* JSTOR, but others

But getting the doi is just the beginning. JSTOR must be able to retrieve references by doi. Can it? Sorry, I wasn't at all clear. I ran together two different ideas without differentiating. That's why mind-reading would be so useful. JSTOR doesn't show any DOI on articles, as far as I can tell, al...

JSTOR and others

I haven't looked into that, but I'd think it's unlikely. Do pdfs downloaded from JSTOR include doi's? I don't see them in any articles that I use (all in philosophy). I do see, however, that several publishers/repositories do include them (at least in the cases I've examined): -Cambridge Journals (...

As for the other, no, it's a pure field, no other text will appear there. If it did, it would be actually entered into the field. I'm beginning to think that the correct behavior would be to disallow you from "scrolling" through references with the Keywords or Notes field active. It shoul...

While I suppose it is possible, I think that unnecessarily complicates the interface. Simple and understandable are good, and having fields change their meaning via a menu of key combination would be unintuitive and confusing, IMO. Hi, Jon. I think the poll winner is probably the most elegant appro...

Honestly, I think it would be a very difficult interface to manage. There's no elegant way you could have two splitters on the same horizontal plane *and* allow them to close all the way *and* allow the middle pane to be closed while keeping the other two open. It won't work. Ah, that does make sen...

Feature request: basic record info for Notes/Keywords tabs

Esp. since they have key commands for opening them, I find the Notes and Keywords Tabs helpful for a variety of things. In particular, in certain Groups, I like to skim through the keywords or notes to see if something stands out to me when I'm working on a project. When skimming through, I like to ...

I don't think three fields at the bottom would work. It would be much too crowded to be useful, especially on a small screen. Not to mention how one would actually handle two splitters in one horizontal plane. I think two fields is the maximum that can be handled here. Hi, Jon. Thanks for the speed...

Re: Keywords…

Jon, I was wondering if you would be open to doing something like what I describe below. If so, would you consider adding it to the poll? I think it would retain the clean look of the Main Tab, while providing all the info people are requesting. And it would be nice to be able to leave the drawer cl...

database repairs

(Jon, I hope it's OK that I take this to the streets to see if anyone else is experiencing this behavior, in the hopes it will help continue to narrow things down; plus you might not get barraged by so many emails from me!) All, I have been experiencing frequent need to repair my database, even afte...

Do you mean to have three fields at the bottom of the main tab, with two splitters, as in Keywords: Notes : Abstract? Ack! I was waiting until I had some free time to reply to this, but it seems the hour of reckoning is nigh. Jon, I don't see a directly reply to your comment above, but what you say...

Melvyl

There's a lot of variety in the records in Melvyl. Part of that is the nature of the records, part is the nature of having a multi-library system "flat-filed" into a single data lookup. In my LOC call # field, I have "050a,050b,090a,090b,090d" included. Note in the record you inc...

importing for missing fields

If I already have a bunch of references in my db, created before I was smart enough (read: took the time) to figure out how filters work, and now I'm missing important fields (esp. LOC Call # and ISBN), is there a way to pick up that data from the original data source (e.g., a library) or some other...

Hi, I can see how that's a pain, but I don't see adding something so highly specific and limited. If you are at a UC school, have you contacted the library to ask why they do this, and perhaps more to the point could the more common names be provided. Jon Sonny Software I can see why my description...
