Hi I am happy to say that drop and drag does now, work with Firefox, just not Safari 3 beta.

sending medline to text works fine. I wonder why the drop and drag works for some and not others? Thanks for your efforts.

I am confused. I downloaded the latest version, am using Safari 3.0 beta on a new black notebook with 2 gigs of ram, and repeated the exact search that Jon did. Neither drop and drag approach worked. If I display medline format, copy the ref, and import it, BE says it imports, but actually only crea...

Hi NickB,
I emailed the pubmed help desk to let them know of the problem they are creating. Maybe if enough of us write they will respond.

It is the same search but there are only six qualifiers in the search fields and I periodically need more. I will send you the snapshots.

Hi Jon thanks for the quick response. I am using Safari, but have also tried Firefox. I like to do an occasional drop and drag because the search does not always find everything. I have used up the available search terms options.

Pub Med

I downloaded the "silent" upgrade but to no avail. If you look at a Pubmed reference in medline format, it is gray not black and is not even copyable to the clipboard and not importable to BE by this method either. Only after being sent to text does it become black and importable.

importing from Pubmed

All of a sudden I can now longer drop the url into Bookends and have the reference imported. If I go to the Medline view in Pubmed the text is ghosted and will not copy. I have to send it to text before it can be copied and imported to Bookends. Has Pubmed changed their format? Will bookends be comp...

Thanks

Thanks very much for solving my issue. I stupidly did not realize that I could make multiple selections for PDF downloading. Is there a way to automatically put the newly downloaded PDFs into a folder?
Thanks very much for your help and a great program. I use it constantly everyday.

The automated version

"Ah, I see. Perhaps this will help now -- you can select multiple references in the List View and tell Bookends to Get PDF. It will go throught them all and try to fetch the pdf if it can. You can have this run at night, of course, if you have hundreds."

Hi, This is exactly what I need. It would be nice if there was a list of the newly downloaded references so that they could be easily examined.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Jon, You misunderstand my request. When using the wonderful get PDF feature, there are many times that a PDF is not freely available at that time. Often at later dates, sometimes a year or more, they become available. It would be nice to have a function that, perhaps at night, would search throug...

further automation of PDF acquisition

Bookends is a GREAT program. It has entirely changed how I deal with knowledge acquisition. For me, a really usefully addition would be to have Bookends periodically, automatically search for PDF files that I do not have. Many journals change an article's public access over time.
Thanks Bob :?:
