PDF display issues

I have had persistent issues with PDF display in annotation view (perhaps since its introduction) in Yosemite, El Capitan and Sierra. Currently running 10.12.1, MBPr 2012. Has anyone else reported this?

Re: MLA still doesn't work

Is that really the best solution? This would require my going back through 600-700 references to italicize the short title... Why can't this be accomplished in the style? Am I the only user of this style in Bookends? Because anyone who wants to use Bookends to produce MLA citations will face the sam...

MLA still doesn't work

Among the new features of 10.5.3: · Disambiguated MLA citations using the short title will enclose it in quote marks if the reference is a journal article or book chapter but not if it is a book. book short titles for disambiguation should be italicized or underlined for MLA. As a general rule, the ...

Re: MLA Style Guide 3rd Ed. (feature request/ question)

This is what I found at OWL Lightenor has argued that computers are not useful tools for small children ("Too Soon" 38), though he has acknowledged elsewhere that early exposure to computer games does lead to better small motor skill development in a child's second and third year ("Ha...

Re: MLA Style Guide 3rd Ed. (feature request/ question)

Yes: short titles that disambiguate are presented as the kind of title they are (chapters and article in quotation marks, books in italics--that is a short version of how the title looks on the works cited page). Your solution does italicize, but it does not solve the problem of there beign quotatio...

Re: MLA Style Guide 3rd Ed. (feature request/ question)

The date disambiguation with MLA is nothing I've ever seen--it's always with titles, AFAIK. apropos of which: I'm pleased to see this implemented in Bookends. However, there's quite a snag. The disambiguation only puts titles in quotes, when sometimes they should be italicized: ex: Blah Blah (Badiou...

Re: Bookends 10.2.1 semi-public beta

Hi, I was trying out the beta, but if I click anywhere on the app I get an error, so I deleted it. Now in the original (10.2) I'm getting "Nil Object Error" if I click anywhere on the app.

I just dragged an accented ref from Bookends into my document and it had the same effect when scanned as composing the ref in Nisus.

It actually works fine in Bookends 10, but not in 9, which is the version I own.

Accent troubles with RTF scan

Hi all. I'm using NWP with Bookends 9: when doing an rtf scan, Bookends doesn't recognize a number of references with accents, reading, for example
"García" as "Garc" and therefore it fails to find the ref in the database.

thanks for any help,
Sam

I'm not unwilling to upgrade, but I've tried 10 and it won't stop trying to "fix" "ambiguous citations."

Jon, I've tried using the "-" but to no avail. It just formats it normally. (I'm using Bookends 9.1 with Mellel 2.2.7.1). I've tried a couple of other fixes. If there is a better way to do this, please let me know. I made my own MLA citation format that includes the short title. Thus, I ca...

Yes, Jon, the issue you've just named constitutes bad MLA support. That is, from the word go it doesn't do what I need it to do. It also doesn't seem to do MLA-style "Ibid" (that is, leave the name/book out of a directly subsequent in-text citation). And of course, there is probably little...

This is another reason I like Mellel. With the "Replace Styles" feature (which works on the works cited that Bookends produces, to be sure) you can always switch italics to underline or times to courier, and so on in a matter of a minute or two. And of course, you can do so with great cons...
