Re: Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments
Many thanks for this explanation. I wonder if Apple is just following Adobe's lead here, given that Adobe Reader seems to do things the same way. Notes associated with highlighted text are created and displayed similarly there (the contextual menu you get when you click on highlighted text in Adobe ...

Re: Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments
Thanks for this. I see I'm confused about the names of these things, but I'm not the only one: things created in Bookends as text highlight comments are called notes in Preview. E.g. if you right click in Preview on a text highlight created in Bookends and with a comment associated with it also in B...

Re: Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments
Apparently the forum only displays one image per post. Here the Adobe Reader one (I hope):

Edit: Sorry: I don't know why this isn't working. But the image from Preview above is enough.

Sure: Here the first highlight has an associated comment; the second doesn't.
Here's how it looks in Preview:

Re: Display of pdf highlight comments
Many thanks for this reply, and for considering the issue. They are coloured differently, which is helpful. (As I guess you know, Jon, but for the information of anyone following) it looks like at present the grouping is per page in the pdf, so the Notes pane shows: All the highlight comments for pa...

Request: tapping text highlight comment icon to open comment
When I add a comment to a text highlight in a pdf in Bookends for iOS a comment icon appears next to the highlight. So far so good. But tapping on it apparently doesn't do anything. It would be great if it were to open the comment for viewing and editing. That would cut three taps (tap on text highl...

Request: Icon for pdf text highlight comments
As far as I can see, unlike Preview, the pdf viewer in Bookends doesn't add a comment icon to a text highlight when a comment is added to it (by right-clicking the text highlight and choosing 'Comment…'). They are really useful since they show immediately and clearly which highlights have comments a...

Display of pdf highlight comments
I'm seeing something a bit odd when I mark up a pdf with a text highlight and then add a comment to the highlight (by right-clicking the highlight and choosing 'Comment…'). In the notes sidebar, such comments are displaying above not below their respective bit of highlighted text, and also coming ap...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4
The less scrolling the better, so I'm for the horizontal layout. On the subject of minimising scrolling: There's quite a bit of white space on the left of the edit pane: i.e. to the left of the longest field titles (maybe 'Ser Editors'?). Could that be trimmed a bit? Then a little more text would fi...

Re: Clear live search field when changing groups?
Please don't change this! I remember when you changed it years ago to the current behaviour – a big step forward. I also recall that at the time you made that change you also added the behaviour that Option-clicking the group would clear the search field. I wonder if the user you have been discussin...

2. and 3. would both be good.
Re 4: Perhaps when moving from a search of one of the other databases to Google Scholar, text that is in a title field could be put into the 'Any Text' field.

Re: How to change the unique ID of a reference?
You might not be seeing it if the edit pane isn't wide enough. It needs to be about twice as wide as the dropdown menu control for choosing reference type on the top right. If not, drag the pane, and then the unique ID will magically appear when it reaches the correct width.
