Re: New MLA Style Guidelines (2008)

Yep, I got my copy in the mail a couple of weeks ago. The relevant section of the book is a little over 80 pages. I have only broken the surface of it, as I've frantically trying to get a chapter in a book going to press this winter.

Oh, and my price information was the result of aggravation and ...

Re: New MLA Style Guidelines (2008)

They don't put it online. If they did, they wouldn't be able to charge hundreds of faculty members $60 for the book and thousands of students $25 for the student book. It's a scam. I'm going to send them a nagging e-mail about posting the standards online, but I doubt it'll have any impact.

New MLA Style Guidelines (2008)

The Modern Language Association has come up with a new set of guidelines for formatting a bibliography. From what I see so far (dull reading) this primarily means adding "Print" to the end of print sources and more substantial changes to the format for online sources.

As far as I can tell, Bookends ...

Thanks, option-space was the ticket.

As in the subject, option-space did the trick. This is a posting on a mailing list for avant-garde poets, so they can get pretty nutty. One guy posts long rambling messages in one paragraph, like two pages in a paragraph, no punctuation, no mercy.

I'm writing a dissertation on these cats..... So ...

I'm trying to cite an e-mail entitled "Left Forum. . . This weekend. . . ." My output needs to look like:

You're right.

I was using a textbook I teach with, which turns out to be wrong when I check it against my big old official MLA Style Manual. Here's one of their examples:

Weinberg, Bernard. A History of Literary Criticism in the Italian Renaissance. 2 vols. Chicago: U of Chicago P, 1961.

Furthermore, my ...

Oops

The correct entry for Bataille would be:

Bataille, Georges. The Accursed Share: An Essay on General Economy. Vol. 1. New York: Zone Books, 1988. 2 vols.

I'm not even sure how to get that last bit about two volumes accomplished in Bookends.

MLA errors?

The MLA output styles in Bookends have many errors. It seems I'm always finding one and correcting it in the styles thingy (pardon my technical jargon). Where should I send my corrections, and why are there so many errors in the MLA format?

Today's example:

Bataille, Georges. The Accursed Share ...
