Thank you everybody for your comments. I've sent the database to Jon so hopefully I'll get the problem worked out soon. Perhaps his reply email to me did get dumped as spam. I do appreciate the quick response I'm receiving from him.

The database was empty. As I said, this was a trial version. The font problem appeared from the get-go. Does the database really require repair at the outset? By the way, the email address you gave is in fact the email address I used with this question. I sent an email to that address on 12/5/06 but...

I downloaded Bookends to try it out and discovered an immediate problem that makes it unusable for me until this is solved. I have heard that support is much better for Bookends than for Endnote and with the latter's userbase and glacial response history perhaps that is true but I was hoping for a r...
