We recommend syncing through a third database, BTW. That is, you sunc your work db to a db on a server, and then sync your home db with the db on that server. This isn't necessary, but works particularly well. Interesting - I read through the use scenarios in the guide for more info, and I'm starti...

Yes, to be explicit, I had no problem typing characters into any search box in Bookends.

My experience is that the title bar's search is not finding the same results as the Refs > Find function. Here's my experience (Bookends 10.1, Leopard): I have many entries with the word "hygiene" in Chinese and Japanese characters (respectively, the 2-character phrase in these languages i...

According to a thread I was told about on the Sente forum, the SRU gateway hasn't functioned for some months. Perhaps the contact info link above would provide a direct answer about linking into JSTOR. But having to jump through the hoops of institutional subscriptions I bet it would really be hard.

This would be really useful to me too.

I know JSTOR has opened its search results to google, so perhaps it there is an API afterall.

Take a look at JSTOR's description of its XML gateway and their contact information.

Luhmann - just wondering: what fields from Amazon would be necessary to import for your citations to movies?

joewiz, I'm not up on the tech side of these things, so I think you know more about it than I do. But can I ask, why would it be a step-by-step process? I can see the Amazon part possibly, but for Google books you can specify in the Advanced search the title, author, ISBN, etc. Would it not be just...

I agree that this is a great idea, but the implementation could be extremely difficult, particularly within Bookends, and it may be better suited to a separate application. If Jon doesn't go for it, you might shop the idea with other developers. The program could take exported files from Bookends, E...

Re: BE erases Chinese characters (QIM input methodology)

I have files that are primarily in English but have some Chinese characters in them. When I "scan document" with BE, some (around one third to one half) of these Chinese characters disappear; they are replaced by an underscore (_), and I have to go through and retype them. I'm using Word ...

I still think being able to customize the formatting link would be cool though. Others may just want a little more info (like author and date) as well. Could it even be based on a format maybe? While I'm really sensitive to the need to prevent feature bloat and menus spawning out of control, I like...

"Copy URL" could be a bit confusing, since refs have a URL field, and since the Bookends server also involves making 'hypertext links' to Bookends references. I think, were this feature to be implemented as a menu item, it would be more accurately called "Copy Local Link to Reference&...
