Re: \emph tags have suddenly appeared
Yes, that was it. Thank you, Jon. I remember now experimenting with exporting some references to BibTex, but didn't realize that changing that setting for the export would stick. I've got it back to the way I'm used to now.

\emph tags have suddenly appeared
I've just noticed that the formatting of my references in the "Formatted" pane has changed from something like this: Barzun, Jacques. The Culture We Deserve: A Critique of Disenlightenment . Wesleyan, 1989. (but in Times) to: Barzun, Jacques.\emph{ The Culture We Deserve: A Critique of Dis...

deleting old database after rebuild?
Hi, I opened my Bookends database for the first time after upgrading to Leopard and got a message stating there were several problems and that I should rebuild. I did, and Bookends created a new database with the word "rebuilt" appended to the database name. The old database is still in my...

Re: Dissertation title not showing up
Thanks. I haven't changed this preference since installing Bookends and it's already set at "Cite by: Content." I think I was expecting the dissertation title to show up because the BE user guide states (p. 39): "If there is no journal or volume entry, up to 10 words of the title will...

Dissertation title not showing up
Hi, I have a reference that is a Ph.D. dissertation. When I drag the reference into a document I get {author's name, year, degree, pages} but no title. (The title does show up as a link when I drag the ID# into a document.) The titles always show up when the references are books or articles. Is this...

How to combine databases?
Hi, I created several databases before I read in the manual, "We suggest you use one database rather than several smaller databases…" (p. 14). I've been trying to figure out how to merge my three databases but haven't found the information in the manual. When I select File>Import Reference...

Re: How to deal with strange characters, e.g. ©¼
Hi, Jon and thank you.
They were definitely MARC records, in fact, nothing gets imported if "MARC filtering" is left unchecked. I have now checked UTF-8 under Import Text Encoding but am still getting the strange characters. I'm not sure what to try next…

How to deal with strange characters, e.g. ©¼
I've just begun to use Bookends and can see how it will really help my work, but I'm wrestling with a few problems: I've imported a number of references from Duke and have imported them into my database. Many of my references are for historic publications and the various accents they use are rendere...
