Re: Annotating pdfs/extracting highlights as quotes
I think Jon is correct that PDFKit is responsible for the size changes. Just be clear, there are (at least) two relevant processes here: 1) Adding annotations 2) How PDFKit saves files I suspect that the annotations add only a trivial amount of data in comparison to the size of the original file. Fr...

Re: Mac app for annotating PDFs (non Preview/Adobe)
Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I have used Skim, and unfortunately if I use Skim to embed annotations in the PDF (so that they are compatible with other viewers on an iPad), Skim suffers the same problem that Preview does and creates a larger file (actually it creates a file that is identical in siz...

Re: Annotating pdfs/extracting highlights as quotes
Hi Jon, Any updates on how Bookends interacts with annotated PDFs? Perfectly understandable if you don't want to say too much about upcoming products, but I just opened a new thread discussing the shortcomings of using external PDF apps with Bookends . If you are planning to release a PDF viewer/ann...

Mac app for annotating PDFs (non Preview/Adobe)
Hello Folks, What do you use for annotating journal articles? I find Preview typically increases the file size by 2x - 5x of the articles I read. This is a problem for the size of my synced reference library. Adobe Reader preserves the original file size, but the interface is awful and buggy (crashe...

Re: Feature Requests
I love the new annotating features in BoT. I seem to have a delay in highlighting, but perhaps that is just on the PDFs I have tried to annotate. I currently use GoodReader but ultimately all my annotated PDFs end up in Bookends so it would be great to have some of these features in BoT directly. So...

Re: Cloud syncing?
Hi Jon, I've been using Bookends for about a year and recently concluded an in-depth comparison of Sente, Papers 2, Zotero, Mendeley, and Bookends. I was struggling to make Bookends fit with my iPad workflow and wanted to see what else is out there. I'm happy to report that I'll be staying with Book...

Re: Inserting a keyword into multiple references
So cool! I couldn't find it in the User's Guide (but I did look before bugging you about it!).
Capitalization doesn't really matter, but is there any reason why it seems to capitalize the first letter of the keyword in the Term List?
Really cool. Nice work, Jon.
Ariel

Re: Inserting a keyword into multiple references
Hi Jon, Is it possible to have the keywords entered apply to selected citations? In other words, I want to be able to select several citations (by either CMD + clicking, SHIFT + clicking, or CMD + A in a hits list), then have whatever I type in the keywords box apply to all of the selected citations...

Display original and recent year of citation
I was wondering if there's a way for Bookends to create a bibliography and citation style that reads the date field with the original and the recent year of citation. So for instance, the bibliography would look like this: Schmitt, Carl. [1932] 2007. The Concept of the Political: Expanded Edition. U...

Import sources.xml from Microsoft Word Mac 2011
I am new to Bookends and am wondering if it's possible to import the list of references that I have from Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 (Version 14). The file is /Users/ ... /Documents/Microsoft User Data/Sources.xml There doesn't seem to be an option for importing Microsoft Word .xml files in Bookends...
