Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface

Thanks Jon, for the changes to PDF options and annotations in the latest version. To my mind they do make annotating in Bookends nicer and more friction-free. Enormously grateful, as always, to your willingness to discuss and implement changes.

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface

Thanks for clearing that up about the back/forward buttons. I had no idea. Looking forward to seeing the other changes, which (believe it or not) will make a daily difference to my use of Bookends. Hopefully true of at least some other people also.

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface

Hi Jon, Thanks with your patience in replying, and for making changes. Your points about tinkering with UI are well taken. 1. I concede on full screen issue. I was thinking about the PDF view - not the entire window – and specifically the kind of command you have put in the gear menu. For the former...

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface

bookends Those changes sound good. I am in favour of removing the requirement for the modifier key to delete an annotation. On on the other points, below, I realise I’ve been a bit wasteful of your time. After looking more carefully at the action menu I take my comment back about the relative absenc...

Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface

I am a longtime user of Bookends but have tended to use separate PDF software (Skim then PDF Expert) for annotating. Lately, however I've been persuaded by the many advantages of marking up PDFs in Bookends. I have a few thoughts and requests for changes to the PDF interface, and wonder what other u...

Re: Batch editing PDF metadata

You're right, I doubt it would be of interest to many, and an Applescript would be an ideal solution. I have no skills in that direction, but I can see that's not a reason to include it in the UI. FWIW I do use Bookends as a document manager (for PDFs and epubs at least).

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

I have a strong preference to keep the current horizontal view. Doubling the height to gain a bit more space for titles and slightly larger edit fields is challenging trade off... If we could customise which fields were actively shown, then that could offset some of the scrolling problems? I think ...

Batch editing PDF metadata

Is this something that others would benefit from, and that could easily be implemented in Bookends? I find having at least the author field in the metadata for PDFs filled extremely helpful for narrowing down text content searches in apps such as Devonthink and Foxtrot. But I have only entered this ...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

I would favour the current, horizontal view, because it means less scrolling.

Thanks Jon. Thought that might be the case. Have deleted and the browser works fine.

Re: Bookends webkit caches - safe to delete?

It's a folder rather than a specific file. Library/Caches/com.sonnysoftware.bookends/Webkit/Networkcache/Version 16. In that folder there are two further folders: 'Blobs' (886 MB) and 'Records' (1.04 GB).

Bookends webkit caches - safe to delete?

I'm running out of storage space on my Mac's small SSD. Some maintenance software has picked out, amongst other things, caches for a few applications that are particularly large: Apple Music, my browser and Bookends, which is at 1.97GB. Is it safe to delete the Webkit cache? I know this is a partly ...

Re: Keyboard shortcut for new static group?

Thanks Jon, I wasn’t aware of that, that's helpful. The reason for pressing for a keyboard shortcut is that sometimes manic course creation requires creating lots of groups (12 per course...) well before deciding what references are going to be in them...

Keyboard shortcut for new static group?

Would it be possible to have a keyboard shortcut for adding new static groups? It's not a menu item so users can't map one onto it. Perhaps ctrl + option + n? The reason I ask is that I often have to add lots of groups in a row (e.g. when mapping out reading lists for weeks of a new syllabus), and i...
