Stop Bookends reorganising my library

Hi, I recently had to install Bookends on a new computer and that is when I (re-)discovered how frustrating and chaotic the "Preferences" panel is, since I was trying to recreate the settings I had before. One that I haven't managed to set right yet is how to stop Bookends from trying to r...

Re: Editing and Reference window

I am sorry but that is not what is happening in my case. First of all, I certainly do not recall ever disabling the reference pane nor am I sure how to undo this. Moreover, when I double click a reference no editing windows opens, instead the program tries to load the attachment in the window below ...

Editing and Reference window

Hi,

I am using Bookends 13.2.5 and when I try to edit a reference this option is greyed out and a pop up note states "(disabled because editing in Reference Window is selected in Preferences)", yet no Reference window opens??

Re: Finding PDF attachments

Thanks Jon. I saw this but every time I look at it 9which isn't often), I think this refers to the folder in which Bookends itself gathers all attachments.

Finding PDF attachments

I have recently had to move all my pdfs attached to Bookends references to a new disk and now not a single reference can be found. I remember that somewhere in its setup Bookends allows one to state a top folder/directory (I am on a Mac) under which these pdfs might be found (I do NOT let Bookends m...

Re: Will Bookends support the latest MLA style?

Indeed I did because when I was doing that I first noticed it. It doesn't alter the fact though. I will take this up with you off-line.

Re: Will Bookends support the latest MLA style?

I don't understand, I am citing an edited book, not a chapter in an edited book.

Re: Will Bookends support the latest MLA style?

I just noticed something odd in the 8th style when referring to an article in a book which is part of a series. Bookends does not mention the series at all, which may be in line with the new MLA style, but it does refer to the volume number in the series and that looks decidedly odd: John Tucker, ed...

Web page

I am on Bookends 12.7.5 and in my list of reference types there is one called "Internet" but I am looking for one that can be used with MLA 8 and allows me to refer to such web pages as those offered by on-line databases such as The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture or even Wikipedia. The &qu...

Re: WorldCat, OPAC Form, MLA 7th edition

I stand corrected. I tried it without using the Bookends browser and got the results I mentioned. Thanks for setting me right. I guess I can download MLA 8th edition?

WorldCat, OPAC Form, MLA 7th edition

Just updated and wishing I hadn't. WorldCat is gone from the Online search and COPAC no longer offers a a form in which I can enter author, title etc info but a mere choice of one (author, etc), which results in thousands of hits which I haven't the time to search through. I also miss MLA 7th editio...

Re: Bookends and workflow

I don't know how to react. You refuse to address the issue I raise, yet you deny that they are issues and refer me instead to the DT forum. Of course I went there when I first noticed my problems and what do I find there when I search for for proximity: "Cluttered Proximity Search Results ... T...

Re: Bookends and workflow

It is a pity that my points are not addressed, merely negated. I was hoping for a constructive discussion on how Bookends could be the centre of a contents management system, not have the whole thing end up in a plaidoyer for a particular product. Anyone else have thoughts on this matter?

Re: Bookends and workflow

So what did I do wrong when I entered search term1 NEAR/5 term2 and was presented with documents that did not show the hits of both terms but of the single terms? So when I searched for Shakespeare NEAR Catholicism I was presented with page after page in which either of these words occurred.

Re: Bookends and workflow

I guess I asked for it and now I am sorry I used the term "toy". Just take it as it was intended, an expression of disappointment, rather than (too much of) a derogatory term. I was hoping to start a discussion on what I thought may be the future for Bookends, not one on the merits of Devo...
