Re: Tweaking import filter

Thank your for the frank answer! Related to this format: Is there a way to get rid of ending full stops (".")? At the moment, each line ends with one, and this is imported into BE. I know that I could remove all incidences with the command "Remove these characters from all fields"...

Re: Tweaking import filter

Thank you for your suggestion! As it turned out, I had overlooked/forgotten a "995n"-tag in the General panel, which, according to the guidebook, overrides the Source-tab, and this was responsible for the entry "Archaeologia Austriaca, 102 (2018)" in the Journal field. Without th...

Tweaking import filter

I have a custom MARC import filter and would like to import the following line correctly: 995 $a ANA $b 001567007 $l DAI01 $n Archaeologia Austriaca, 102 (2018) "Archaeologia Austriaca" is the name of the journal, and "102" the volume. The rest of the line is to be ignored. This ...

Re: Using citation format created on MacOS in Bookends for iOS

Additionally, I cannot re-create the format on iOS. Strictly speaking, this is not true. Take a CSL-format which resembles the style you want and adjust it to your needs. This can be done, e. g. within the free Zotero-app. The new style can then be added to the app (see user guide: https://www.sonn...

Re: Copy reference as Plain text

Interesting to know. FidusWriter is an online-app, so it is up to the browser. At least I am not aware of any option to tell, say, Safari to pick the plain text version of the clipboard.

Re: Copy reference as Plain text

Thanks for the quick answer! I am experimenting with an online word processor specifically aiming at academic collaboration (FidusWriter), and with Zotero it is possible to add Bibtex-styled references via drag-and-drop (or copy-paste). At the moment, this does not work with BE because of the RTF-st...

Copy reference as Plain text

Is there a way in BE to copy a formatted reference without any styling? I have tried several outputs (Preferences -> Scan & Bib -> Output text as …) + Copy Formatted, but the output always seems to be RTF-formatted. Cmd-alt-shift-v does not help either. The workaround to strip the reference from...

Re: Losing comments after scanning Pages doc

I think it is a Scrivener problem. I regularly run into issues with preserving footnotes (another possibility or marking text chunks in Scrivener). My workflow now involves: - compiling in Scrivener as .rtf or doc (does not make a difference) - opening in OpenOffice and saving as doc. - opening in P...

Re: Tell me about your paper-writing bookends workflow

Just my two cents: I think a reference manager is not really useful without a proper text editor (I use Scrivener) and a repository for your pdfs (I use Devonthink Pro Office). I am of the conviction that in proper academic writing it would ask too much from Bookends to cover all the functions softw...

Re: Bookends Beginner Help? Adding page numbers to Scrivener

You may want to have a look at an older post of mine: https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3465 There I describe how to have both via AppleScript: the temporary citation and a clickable link to the Bookends-item in Scrivener. In fact, a link to the pdf in Devonthink is create...

Re: What should a double click do?

I have the edit pane always visible, too, but I store my pdfs in Devonthink Pro Office. The pdfs are linked via a custom field. So, for me it would be ideal if a double-click would open the linked document (perhaps the field of choice customizable as drop-down menu in the preferences?).

Re: Bookends Tools, an Alfred workflow of 8 different functions

Have you ever used DTP? Do you know how well Alfred integrates with DTP? As you know, I'll always use Scrivener for my writing; including the incorporation of Bookends notes into Scrivener's research folder. DTP(O) (I recommend the Office-version) is highly scriptable. I use Alfred regularly to inv...

Re: Convert Author-Date format to Footnotes

Because you must be sure there are no characters (including spaces) between them, or Bookends will think they're separate citations. Given that Word often tries to "help" when you paste in text and insert spaces, this can result in unpleasant surprises. Have all your citations in one set ...

Re: Suggestion: Library Menu

NO, I am talking about searching tools like Devonthink and Spotlight. The number of words in a book tend to matter for the search. A few gagantic pdf books always come on top. You do know that you can also exclude specific pdfs in Devonthink? I do that regularly for books because otherwise they alw...
