Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

Here's part of the problem. When there are many authors, even when the Author field is minimized it can take up a quarter of the available space in the Edit tab...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

I appreciate your tolerance of my grumbling. A pandemic doesn't bring out the best in me. :? A small correction (of myself): I realized that the three tab buttons at the top could be eliminated with only one extra icon at the bottom: Main reference, Note stream, Summary, and Attachments. If you want...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

I am using the Summary tab to read the metadata. I've modified its format to focus on what I'm most interested in: the notes and the abstract. And I applaud your goal of simplifying the Edit tab. What I am grumbling about, hopefully not too obnoxiously, is that I am finding the Edit tab more complex...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

If you do a new install, Vol (Issue) is Volume (Issue), and it fits exactly that space. And of course we have other users commenting on this forum who have complained it's not wide enough to accommodate their edited labels. YCPE. Could the space adjust to fit the largest label? There are 8 pixels b...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

Working now with 14.0.5. I feel compelled to say that to my eye there is a lot of wasted white space, and so a lot of scrolling needed. If I make the window narrower it is not the space on the left that reduces but the size of the fields, which seems odd to me. There also seems to be a lot of vertic...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

You know, Jon, I am going to withdraw my request that the keyboard shortcuts be reinstated. When the menu pops up quickly (when the machine's not too busy) then clicking isn't a chore. In fact, selecting text and using the menu can all be done with one hand, so I can eat a chocolate bar with the oth...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

There are lots of Bookends features that one discovers only by reading the fine print in the user manual! :)

At least that has been my experience.

Yes, the shortcuts could be listed in the help tags which pop up in the popup menu.

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

Yes, I read the thread on cmd-C after I had posted here. The problems which that poster has with cmd-C are similar to the problems I am having with (as I recall) cmd-shift-M. Muscle memory; waiting for the popup to appear... I had no idea that cmd-C still works, because I type it before the popup ap...

Re: NoteStream from iPad --> Mac

I am following this thread with interest, because I have had similar concerns. In Bookends, a "note" is text contained in the database notes field. A PDF "annotation" is highlighted text in a PDF. There is nothing special about Bookends for iOS. Any annotations you make in a PDF,...

Re: Great update of reference pane in 14.0.4

Is there any reason why, when working on a pdf, the keyboard shortcuts couldn't continue to work to create a notecard, a pdf note, and simply to copy text? I have used them for a long time to put data into the reference pane. But now a clickable menu pops up instead. My motor memory tends to type th...

Re: Hook's Bookends script now support `Reveal File in Finder`

"Show in Finder" has been for as long as I can remember an option in the menu at the bottom left corner of the Attachments window. Why was it removed? I use this option frequently.

Notes not transfering from BE iOS

Jon, Me again! :) I have posted this in the BE iOS forum. But since the problem may lie with the new Mac version I am posting here also. I have been using the note-taking function in BE iOS (3.5.2). I find it very valuable in my workflow. However, I just upgraded to BE 13.4.3. Now, the notes I had p...

Reference title eppears white on white

Using BE 13.4.3 under OS 10.13.6 the way a reference is highlighted is a lot clearer than it was in the previous version. But when a reference has a label attached and the selection shifts off the reference, its title appears white on white. See screen shot.

Re: Question about highlighting

I have been using the note-taking function in BE iOS (3.5.2). (My procedure is to highlight the text, tap Note, simply tap Done without entering anything in the next box, then tap the document to dismiss the dialog.) I find it very valuable in my workflow. However, I just upgraded to BE 13.4.3. Now,...
