Restore from backup -- How?

Hi I ended up deleting hundreds of entries from my Bookends database--the most important ones! So, I restored from backups and I see that as soon as Bookends connects, it immediately deletes the references again! When I open the restored database I see this Screen Shot 2019-03-07 at 14.17.15.png and...

Strange and scary behavior for delete key

I can't replicate this yet, but I was cleaning up some collections in my Bookends database, and after I deleted a bunch of references from various static collections, suddenly the warning message switched from "Remove N references from group 'Group Name'?" to "Permanently delete N references from th...

Re: The era of "cloud reference managers"?

A couple of thoughts if you go down Jon's suggested route: Set up an administrative account on your mac with your normal iCloud login -- that way you can easily keep software up to date. You can't even download free stuff from the Apple store without a credit card. It'd probably be a little bit of a...

"Title" field in reference format for edited book

I have a very simple format that I use for renaming attachments for edited books: {a^e$, Ed++.$^$Anonymous$} (d) t But I can't make the title field ("t") do what I want. If the book is part of a series, and I have a volume number, then the title comes out as Series Volume Title , when all I want is ...

Re: Deleting some items in a collection actually deletes all of them

I just sent you an email with the details. But to clear things up on the forum, the problem is not what I described here. It seems that clicking on the "Circle-X" in the filter does not immediately clear the filter under some circumstances, but this is just a (rare?) display error, not an error of p...

[Edited:] Deleting some items in a collection appears to delete all of them

[See note at end, this is an incorrect description of a bug] I am trying to find all items in a collection that do not meet a certain criterion, and it isn't working. This appears to be a general bug in static collections: if you filter a collection by a criterion, select all, delete those items, yo...

Re: Weird tiny bug on renamed catalog

I don't think that there is any reason for a program to ask me to create a new document when I am opening an existing document. But that's just me, and, obviously, this is a tiny issue.

Hope 2019 is great for you and sonnysoftware.

Weird tiny bug on renamed catalog

I renamed my catalog in the Finder, and upon double-clicking it, Bookends asked me if I wanted to create a new library. Some small setting is awry and Bookends was acting like I was opening it without a document. Upon the second open of the renamed library, the dialog didn't appear.

Re: Odd changes of focus when editing fields

Very odd--I was having this problem and the problem that right clicking on a collection and choosing "Delete…" would try to delete the first reference in that collection.

Deleting the app (which was the latest version) and downloading 13.1.5 again solved both problems.

Thanks Jon

Inspector window offscreen

Hi I just moved from a computer with a larger display to one with a smaller display. When I opened the Inspector window, it was offscreen. (I could see the window with "App Exposé" but couldn't figure out how to get it onscreen.) I finally was able to get to the window by changing the resolution in ...

Re: cmd-Y, cmd-K and floating citations in Mojave

No, as I said, my word processor is Scrivener, and everything worked as you intended in High Sierra. That said, this failure to paste is at worst an inconvenience, and in my opinion, not a problem at all.

cmd-Y, cmd-K and floating citations in Mojave

I have Scrivener set up as my word processor in Bookends. There are two issues under Mojave that people might want to know about. First, when you try to copy a reference to your word processor from Bookends, you will need to allow Bookends to control System Events.app in the System Preferences > Sec...

Unset font and font size but not italics?

Hi I might be an edge user, but I want to clear font and font size, but not the other styles (italic, bold, superscript, subscript, etc.) I have put all scientific names in my database in italics, but somehow font + font size also crept into these fields. I have already gone through my database and ...
