Alphabetization puzzle

Hi I use accented characters in authors' names (because they are accented "in real life.") As far as I can tell, Bookends does not intelligently sort accented characters (in Bookends, Á usually comes after Z but sometimes after A and before B). A related issue is that accented characters are not sor...

Detach and move to trash

Can I put in a strong request for a "Detach and move to trash" option? This could be done by (a) adding another menu item to what is already a long menu, (b) changing the meaning of "Detach…" when the option key is held down, (c) adding a preference of "Trash/Don't trash when detaching". I have 9,70...

Re: Synchronizing metatags

Hey, cool.

Yes, I keep my Dropbox folders in "the same place" on both computers, so it should just work. I'll give that a try.

Synchronizing metatags

Hi Since an earlier posting was written in April 2017, Bookends seems to have implemented synchronizing reference colors (which I think of as status), which is great. This post also asked for synchronizing metatags, the response to which seemed to say "don't count on this happening." I must say that...

Re: Orphaned attachments/unattached attachments

That is exactly what I need. I'll do it some time when I can wait for Bookends to finish.

Yes, I have found the references with orphans, and I am about to kill them ("No, don't kill the orphans!") as I have convinced myself that they were orphaned in Sente, and not somehow lost in the import.

Orphaned attachments/unattached attachments

Hi I have migrated from Sente, and there are (of course) lots of things to fix up. For some reason I have a lot of orphaned attachments (orphaned = references for which Bookends thinks that it should have an attachment, but can't find the attachment), which I think are mostly missing from my compute...

Hi freney. I think what you are seeing is consistent with what I saw.

Re: Is there a way to mark a paper as "read"?

I have always "marked as read" using a status. (I'm a recent convert from Sente, and I brought my statuses over). I find that there are nuances on reading (did I read it carefully?, did I read it and take good notes?, did I read it before or after I made my earth-shattering discovery?) and a check-b...

Spaces in metatags

Hi I don't think that this issue is addressed in the manual or here. Although the discussion of metatags makes it look like they allow you search for a bunch of keywords, it turns out that they match keywords by matching words in the keywords, not by matching the entire keyword string. For instance,...

Re: Full screen on secondary screen seems broken

Thanks for the reply, Jon. I suspect that the difference between clicking on the green button and choosing "Enter Full Screen" is in your purview, since the behavior is different on a secondary screen. Perhaps you have set things up to be notified when the window goes full screen, and the notificati...

Re: What is "normal" iCloud syncing behavior?

So, I said that I would never use iCloud again when Apple decided to break it during an OS upgrade. I can't remember which upgrade, but it may have been iOS 8 + Mavericks. In any event, all my iOS devices were using a "new" iCloud which my MacOS devices couldn't access, because the upgrade for MacOS...

Full screen on secondary screen seems broken

I am a new user of Bookends, so please forgive me if this is due to a misunderstanding of the user interface. If I put the bookends window on my main screen and click the green zoom button (or choose "Enter Full Screen") the window zooms to its own "Space" and then resets the panes to feature the at...
