Re: Keeping Data Bases Consistent

I'd recommend any server that you have access to at your institution or workplace. You can even sync to a db you keep on a thumb drive. Thats faster than exporting/importing references, and will sync deletions and groups as well (which exporting/importing won't). Jon Sonny Software I don't have an ...

Re: Keeping Data Bases Consistent

Jon, thanks, I can try that. As for Sync, which seems from the manual to be attractive, what do you recommend for the cloud if not MobileMe?

Re: Keeping Data Bases Consistent

It also seems that there are some issues using DropBox in a corporate environment. I was also dismayed in an experiment (create file at home, put in DropBox, access the file the next day in the offie) to find that when I accessed my data base in DropBox this morning that the file was text-only (appa...

Re: Keeping Data Bases Consistent

Thanks Jon, I had actually looked in Preferences but didn't see "Added" (i.e., "date added," which is what I wanted) down at the bottom.

Keeping Data Bases Consistent

If I add references to Bookends at home and want to update the data base on my office computer, or vice versa, how best do I maintain consistency? One way, of course, would be to use Bookends in a "cloud" (as with a MobileMe account) or to use a USB stick to transfer. However, with big data bases th...

Curiosity: Vanished Reference Windows

Just in case anyone else encounters this oddball problem. I updated to Bookends 10.5.4. I found that my database opened in list view and that I could not get to a reference view by double-clicking. I changed the default in preferences to be for reference view. I quit and reopened Bookends but no win...

Re: Bookends and Apple Pages '09

Jon's advice to scan only at the end of a project with Pages, or on a COPY of the manuscript along the way, is sensible because it is the only way to assuredly avoid problems. After all, the document does not contain the markers that would allow for unscanning (or "rescanning" in the sense of the co...

Re: Bookends and Apple Pages '09

If I am writing in Pages, and along the way I change a Bookends bibliographic item (say to correct the year of publication), will that correction be made in the Pages document by scanning again? Since BE doesn't "unscan," I would think that the answer is no and that the correction could be made only...

Re: Word 2008 Scan and Unscan

Jon, I have not been able to consistently copy and paste from TextEdit. Right now, for example, I am looking at a TextEdit document with a single figure, copied from PowerPoint. If I use CMD-C, move over to a fresh Word document, and use CMD-V, nothing happens. Similarly, with CMD-X and CMD-V. Simil...

Re: Word 2008 Scan and Unscan

Another data point. I had a moderate document (less than 100 pages) and was unable to scan/unscan. Work would gobble up 100% of cpu while the unscanning effort would go on interminably. As Jon suggested, I was able to scan the rtf file and could have quit there. To "fix" the problem, however, so tha...
