Re: Renaming attachments not working

OK. If it still happens once you do, try moving the attachments folder out of iCloud Drive (and resetting the location in preferences) and see if that makes a difference.

Re: Renaming attachments not working

This sounds like permissions problems on your Mac, something that Bookends can't do anything about. You might try giving Bookends Full Disk Access in System Preferences and see if that helps.

Re: Help with document scanning

The comment here that is correct is that Bookends can have problems scanning huge Word documents, and the explanation and ways to deal with this are given on our web site https://www.sonnysoftware.com/Issues/issues.html I don't know where the rest comes from, but it's incorrect. Jon Sonny Software

Re: Change title case with external script

As I said, you set this in the *format*, not the database! The database never has to change.

Please read the User Guide (Help menu) about how formatting works, and how to change the title case.

Re: Change title case with external script

I don't see why not (but others may give you a better answer). But why do you want to do this? The format you use can set the case of the title, there are few good reasons for hard coding this in the database.

Re: Find and Replace Document Type

Yes, in two steps:

1. Find the references you want to change (Command-F).
2. Global Change -> Change Reference Type -> Hits List

Re: iCloud and PDFs

PDFs in iCloud Drive ARE stored locally unless you've enabled macOS to move them to the cloud permanently (and if you do, Bookends will force their download again -- Bookends can't open PDFs that are only in the cloud). If you don't use iOS to access the PDFs and you have one Mac, use the default PD...

You mean you can edit the order field but after you close and reopen it hasn't changed?

Re: French formats, anyone interested?

It's actually easy to do even without conditional groups. Something like this (untested), where u9 is the Transl. Auth field: a, $Translated by $u9*. t. If there is nothing in the u9 field, you get this Smith, A, My article. otherwise Smith, A, Translated by Jones, TR. My article. (the asterisk afte...

Re: French formats, anyone interested?

If you have specific formats we'd be happy to include them with the distribution (we already do that for some foreign formats). As for dealing with empty fields, I recommend 2 approaches: 1. Use spaces and $ (quote marks). For example, if the editors field is empty the text prior to it won't be outp...

Re: Avoiding duplicates among static groups

You don't duplicate a reference for that. A single reference can belong to as many static groups as you like. Just drag it from the reference list into each static group you want it to belong to.

Re: import from Readcube ?

Note that Bookends only needs the PDF name, not its path. I assume you can download the PDFs to the HD...if so, just move them to the Bookends default attachment folder and, if Bookends has imported the names, Bookends will find them. As for exporting 3K references as RIS, I'm sure it can do that. P...

Re: Duplicate attachments and red paper clip icon

Then check the default attachment folder. If the PDFs aren't there, move them yourself in the Finder.

Re: Duplicate attachments and red paper clip icon

The PDF names were imported correctly but can't be found by Bookends? If so, did you move the PDFs to the Bookends default attachment folder in the Finder?
