Danzac - Having requested the same feature, let me share a workaround of sorts from Jon: There is nothing stopping you from rolling your own, though, by typing the bookends://sonnysoftware.com/ and then adding the unique id after it. I made my left-most column Unique ID and keep it narrow unless I n...

Re: not open
It should do the same thing as clicking on your keyboards menu (AKA input menu) in the menu bar and selecting Show Character Palette. If you don't have a keyboards menu (i.e. it's the US flag icon generally for US keyboards), you can turn it on in System Preferences > International > Input Menu > Sh...

But I usually prefer downloading .bib format (the RIS does not work well from most of the sides I visit). So, I changed the workflow from .ris to .bib. The refs are recognized and send to BE, and then moved to the trash. My problem is that BE does not import the references correctly (means not at a...

2) The workflow needs to know the location of your desktop folder (eg Macintosh HD:Users:yourusername:Desktop) . The applescript simply gets the path to the current user's desktop folder. In version 1, I used the 'Get Specified Finder Items' action, but I think it was hardcoded to my username. That...

Re: Automator Workflow: Import RIS to Bookends
Now whenever I save an ris file to my desktop, the workflow automatically launches and it saves the references to Bookends. Now that I have it set up and it's working, I've noticed that anytime any new file enters the desktop, the workflow automatically launches. I think I'll disable the folder act...

Let me know if this incarnation works. :) It does! I'd be interested to know what the applescript portion does - why is that step #1 necessary? Gerben - it sounds like you don't have Folder Actions enabled. To enable folder actions: 1. Open Folder Actions Setup in the Applications/AppleScript folde...

Re: Automator Workflow: Import RIS to Bookends
Very neat idea! I'd like to give it a try. I'm having some trouble with it so far, though. I downloaded the "Import RIS to Bookends.scpt" file that you linked to, and set up the desktop to be associated with it as a folder action, and I downloaded a .ris file from google scholar to the des...

Interesting. It seems like the bibliography pane in Mellel's preferences would be the most likely culprit, but I checked to make sure that my default style set is the one specified in the bibliography pane, and none of the substitutions are set oddly. This isn't a huge issue, since anything I copy a...

It has a bona fide search field! :-) Effective screenshot! Now that that's established, I can see that Bookends' search field still tops Endnote's. Bookends lets you search all fields or restrict the search to a given field, right in the search field. (Take a look at the menu when you click on the ...

Hm, I don't see a Paste Special in Mellel (I see a Copy Special). I'm using Mellel version 2.1, build 7. Check the version you have... Thanks, Jon. I'm using version 2.1.2. With 2.1.1, the paste special menu was added. These have actually been a nice series of updates -- a 'fit width' autozoom, the...

You can copy from the formatted pane view (I just did). I don't know why you can't. Sorry, I should've specified further. I was trying to copy some text (book title) from the middle of the formatted pane view and paste it into Mellel. When I did that, I got nothing - not even blank spaces. Just now...

Suggested improvements to copying selected text
I just noticed that I'm unable to copy text that I've selected in the View Formatted pane. It would be nice to be able to select and copy text from that location, just as I can from the various drawer tabs. On a related note, I'd expect to be able to right-click on any selected text in the Bookends ...
