Thanks a ton, Jon - RIS worked! Hopefully this also answers the original question in this thread: For Proquest dissertations, use RIS to import!

I was just using ProQuest Dissertations & Theses, and I marked some references for export using the "Download in a format compatible with ProCite, EndNote, Reference Manager and RefWorks" option. I'm not having any luck importing this file, using the "EndNote Export (refer)" ...

Improve focus behavior when app-switching to Bookends

With Bookends in List View with the Info Drawer visible, if you switch from another application to Bookends, the focus visibly jumps, first to the main window, and then to the Info Drawer. Getting the focus out of the Info Drawer into the list of entries or search bar requires a mouse click - thus t...

Re: Books! (an open source, personal library management prog

Interesting - so you separate your 'citation management' and 'library management'. If you have the chance, could you post 1 or 2 cases where this is a helpful combination, explaining both the need and the solution - and what doesn't work the way you'd like?

Re: RE: Partial success importing Japanese records from Melv

Although still somewhat buggy, with the help of Jon I have been able to get a filter to import Japanese records from UC Melvyl whilst mainitaining not only the diacritics but also the kanji. If I knew how to attach it to this forum I would. Congrats, Shayne. Would you mind sending your filter along...

Re: Keywords = Tags ?

I think Luhmann is on to something here. This concept of tags and tag clouds really is a revolutionary leap in organizing and interacting with your data. Tags bring 'groups' (as in static and smart groups) to a whole new level. With today's static groups, you have to manually link a citation to a gr...

The MARC records are very different to those explained in the Bookends guide, and that confused me. I'm hitting my head against this wall now too with some records from a library in Taiwan... I think the only way is to look for what you need from the record - and reconstruct a filter from that, giv...

What's the wall that you hit? Is your filter not working at all? Are only some tags being recognized but not others? From what you've heard from Jon, is it best to just wait for 9.0.7, or are there things you can work on for this filter in the meantime?

Re: RE: z39.50 access to Japanese libraries

The amazon.co.jp filter works pretty well. Most likely an 'internet search' filter for a Japanese library won't work, but if you can download records in MARC format, you can construct your own input filter to process that. So I would search the libraries in question for 'export as MARC', etc. Please...

Re: this appears to work

It's not working too well, Joe. Perhaps you could help as you appear to have some experience? Thanks Sorry to hear that, Tim. And to add insult to injury, I've can't say I've succeeded in creating my import filter; I just haven't been able to find the time to work on it yet. But do share your quest...
